Westcott House is an Anglican theological college based on Jesus Lane in the centre of the university city of Cambridge in the United Kingdom. Its main activity is training people for ordained ministry in the Church of England and other Anglican churches. Westcott House is a founding member of the Cambridge Theological Federation. The college is considered by many to be Liberal Catholic in its tradition, but it accepts ordinands from a range of traditions in the Church of England.

The Bishop of Tewkesbury is an episcopal title used by a suffragan bishop of the Church of England Diocese of Gloucester, in the Province of Canterbury, England. The title takes its name after the town of Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire, but the bishop's responsibilities cover the whole diocese. As with all suffragan sees, the need for the see of Tewkesbury is reconsidered every time it falls vacant. In both 2013 and 2016, the diocesan synod recommended that a new bishop be appointed, concluding that the need for a bishop was greater than ever.

Ralph Emmerson was Bishop of Knaresborough from 1972 to 1979. Born in Leeds, West Yorkshire on 7 July 1913 he was educated at Leeds Grammar School and King's College London. He worked initially in the Youth Employment Department of Leeds Educational Authority before studying for ordination at Westcott House, Cambridge. An urban priest and keen cricketer amongst many appointments he was Vicar of Headingley, in 1966 he was appointed Canon Missioner for the Diocese of Ripon. In 1972 he was promoted again to be Suffragan Bishop of Knaresborough a post he held to his retirement in 1979. For a further seven years he helped out as an honorary assistant bishop in the diocese he had served so well.
