Francesc Homs Molist (born 5 September 1969, in Vic, Barcelona) is a Spanish politician and Minister of the Presidency and Spokesperson of the Government of Catalonia. [1]

Early life and education

Francesc Homs was born in Vic in 1969 and holds a degree in Law from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). [1] He is married and father to two daughters. [1] In his private life, he is a keen cyclist and a practising Roman Catholic. [2]

Political career

He is Minister of the Presidency and Spokesperson of the Government of Catalonia (Generalitat de Catalunya). Previously, he was Secretary General of the Presidency of the Government of Catalonia (2010-2012) and Director General of Interdepartmental Affairs (2001-2003).

He was a member of the Parliament of Catalonia from 2003 to 2010. [1] He was writer of the draft of the new Statute of Catalonia on behalf of Convergència i Unió (CiU), and speaker of the new Statute (2006).

He has worked in several private companies in the service and banking sectors. [2]

He is Vice-Secretary General of Strategy of Convergència Democràtica de Catalunya (CDC) and member of the Executive National Board of Convergència i Unió (CiU). He was the Head of the Project Great House of Catalanism (Projecte de la Casa Gran del Catalanisme), which aimed to remodel and build on the political catalanism.

Catalan independence movement

The Catalan independence movement is a social and political movement with roots in Catalan nationalism, which seeks the independence of Catalonia from Spain, along with some in the movement supporting the independence of North Catalonia from France and that of other Catalan-speaking areas, referred to as the Catalan Countries.

It is formed by 135 deputies (diputats/deputats/diputados), who are elected every four years or after extraordinary dissolution, chosen by universal suffrage in lists with four constituencies, corresponding to the Catalan provinces. The Parliament building is located in Ciutadella Park, Barcelona.

2010 Catalan regional election

The 2010 Catalan regional election was held on Sunday, 28 November 2010, to elect the 9th Parliament of the autonomous community of Catalonia. All 135 seats in the Parliament were up for election. This was the first election held in Catalonia after the Constitutional Court of Spain struck down parts of the regional 2006 Statute of Autonomy that granted new powers of self-rule to the region. The ruling came after four years of deliberation concerning a constitutional appeal filed by the conservative People's Party (PP) under Mariano Rajoy and was met with anger and street protests throughout the region.

2015 Catalan regional election Regional elections of Catalonia

The 2015 Catalan regional election was held on Sunday, 27 September 2015, electing the 11th Parliament of the autonomous community of Catalonia. All 135 seats in the Parliament were up for election. This was the third regional Catalan election in only five years, after the 2010 and 2012 elections and the first one in over 37 years in which Democratic Convergence of Catalonia (CDC) and Democratic Union of Catalonia (UDC) ran separately, after the dissolution of Convergence and Union (CiU) in June 2015 over disagreements on the coalition's separatist turn.

Junts pel Sí

Junts pel Sí was a Catalan electoral, political and parliamentary alliance focused on achieving the independence of Catalonia from Spain. Established ahead of the 2015 Catalan regional election, it was formed by Democratic Convergence of Catalonia (CDC), Republican Left of Catalonia (ERC), Democrats of Catalonia (DC), Left Movement (MES) and Independence Rally (RI.cat), as well as a number of independent personalities from pro-independence sectors of civil society, including the pro-independence organizations Catalan National Assembly, Òmnium and the Association of Municipalities for Independence. The Popular Unity Candidacy (CUP) had been invited to participate in the alliance, but refused to do so and ran on its own instead, citing its disagreement with the presence of politicians in the list.

Union of the Centre and Christian Democracy of Catalonia

Union of the Centre and Christian Democracy of Catalonia was an electoral coalition formed in Catalonia in December 1976 to contest the Spanish Congress of Deputies election of 1977, the first democratic election to be held in Spain since the Second Spanish Republic. It was formed by the Catalan Centre (CC) and the historic Democratic Union of Catalonia (UDC), and came to be supported by the Christian Democratic Team of the Spanish State, which did not run on its own in Catalonia. The coalition was officially registered on 3 May 1977. The alliance dissolved shortly after the election upon the start of the newly elected parliament, with UDC deputy Antón Cañellas joining the Catalan–Basque Group and Carlos Güell going into the Mixed Group.

1980 Catalan regional election

The 1980 Catalan regional election was held on Thursday, 20 March 1980, to elect the 1st Parliament of the autonomous community of Catalonia. All 135 seats in the Parliament were up for election. This was the first regional election to be held in Catalonia since the Spanish transition to democracy and the second democratic regional election in Catalan history after that of 1932.

Jordi Turull

Jordi Turull i Negre is a Spanish politician associated with Together for Catalonia. Since March 2018 he has been in pre-trial custody by order of the Supreme Court of Spain and accused of sedition and rebellion. On July 10, 2018 a Supreme Court judge suspended him as a deputy in the Catalan parliament.

Marta Pascal

Marta Pascal Capdevila is a Spanish politician, a Senator of the Parliament of Catalonia. From July 2016 to July 2018, she was general coordinator of the Catalan European Democratic Party (PDeCAT). From October 2012 to February 2015, she was president of the Nationalist Youth of Catalonia, and from July 2015 until its dissolution in July 2016 she was the spokesperson for the Democratic Convergence of Catalonia (CDC).
