Frankie McCamley is a British journalist and news presenter, working at BBC News and BBC London.

Background

McCamley lived for the majority of her childhood in Oswestry, Shropshire. [1] McCamley attended Lakelands School in Ellesmere, Shropshire. She has said that the school instilled confidence in her. She then attended Yale College in Wrexham (now known as Coleg Cambria). McCamley then studied at Leeds Metropolitan University (now known as Leeds Beckett University), [2] where she graduated with an upper second-class honours degree in Public Relations with Marketing. [3]

Career

One year after completing her undergraduate degree, McCamley began studying for a postgraduate diploma in broadcast journalism at the London College of Communication; she later graduated with this postgraduate diploma. [3] While studying this postgraduate diploma, [3] McCamley worked as a journalist at commercial broadcast media outlets. [4]

Between 2012 and 2013, McCamley worked at BBC WM 95.6 (now known as BBC Radio WM). Whilst at BBC WM 95.6, McCamley's broadcasting mainly involved presenting news bulletins and bulletins of other information.

However, by mid-2014, McCamley worked as a broadcast journalist and news presenter at Newsbeat on BBC Radio 1. [5]

By May 2015, McCamley had begun reporting for BBC News. [6] For some years around the year 2016, she also reported for 5 News on Channel 5. [7]

In 2019, McCamley was shortlisted [8] for a Criminal Justice Alliance award for covering the lives of women who have ended up being serial criminals. [9] In the same year, she presented a BBC documentary which was the result of a BBC investigation which found that children, in some cases just seven years old, were being groomed in order to engage in sexual activity for financial payment in Bangladesh. [10]

By the early half of 2020, McCamley was an Education Correspondent at BBC News. [11] Also in 2020, she began reporting for ITV News.

In February 2022, McCamley began presenting BBC London, the BBC's regional news service for the city and surrounding area. In June 2022, she began presenting on the BBC News channel.

In 2024, McCamley appeared in a BBC One documentary exploring the quest for justice following the kidnaping, rape and murder of Sarah Everard in 2021. [12]

McCamley continues to be a correspondent at BBC News, [13] in addition to her presenting duties.

She has moderated and hosted events focusing on education issues. [14]

On the evening of 3 March 2021, 33-year-old Sarah Everard was kidnapped in South London, England, as she was walking home to the Brixton Hill area from a friend's house near Clapham Common. She was stopped by off-duty Metropolitan Police constable Wayne Couzens, who identified himself as a police officer, handcuffed her, and placed her in his car before transporting her to Kent. Couzens subsequently raped and strangled Everard, before burning her body and disposing of her remains in a pond in woodland.
