František Fuka (pronounced [ˈfraɲcɪʃɛkˈfuka] ) (October 9, 1968 in Prague) is a Czech computer programmer and musician. He currently works as a film translator, preparing English-language movies for Czech release. He is known also as a film critic, publicist and commentator.

František Fuka is one of the pioneers of blogging in the Czech Republic. His website FFFilm gradually became one of the important sources among Czech film sites. [1] The newspaper Lidové noviny ranked him among the top six influential personalities of the Czech internet in 2004. [2]

Until 2023, František Fuka was a member of one of the oldest-running Czech radio podcasts, Odvážné palce.

Games for ZX Spectrum

Fuka developed several video games for the ZX Spectrum with the Czechoslovakian programming group Golden Triangle. As a member of the group, he was introduced in 2016 to the Czech video game Hall of Fame. [3] Fuka has also been noted as an influence on other Slovak game developers. [4]

Kooky is a 2010 Czech action comedy film directed by Jan Svěrák. The film combines techniques of puppet animation, stop motion and live action. It tells the story of a six-year-old asthmatic boy whose parents throw his favorite toy away, an old teddy bear named Kooky. The boy, however, secretly sneaks out of the house at night, to retrieve Kooky from the garbage can and bring him back home. Due to that, the boy gets ill. In his feverish dreams, Kooky comes to life in the landfill, escapes into a mysterious forest and begins its journey amongst the rough-and-ready creatures of the forest.

Walking Too Fast is a Czech thriller and drama film directed by Radim Špaček. It was released in 2010. It is a psychological story about relations between the secret police (StB) and the dissident movement, set in communist Czechoslovakia in the 1980s. The video game industry in the Czech Republic has produced numerous globally successful video games such as Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis and the subsequent ArmA series, the Mafia series, Truck Simulator series, the Kingdom Come: Deliverance series, the Samorost series and others. There were 300–400 video game developers and around 30 video game companies focusing on video game development in 2014. In 2017 it was 1,100 developers and 47 companies. Video games are also considered by some experts to be the country's biggest cultural export. The video game industry did not enjoy a good reputation and was unsupported by the state until 2013, when the Ministry of Industry and Trade started to seek ways to kickstart the economy. By 2014, programs were planned to support the video game industry. Another problem is a lack of video game development specialization at any university.

Horké léto is a point-and-click video game. Developed by Czech studio Maxon, it was published in 1998 by JRC Interactive. A sequel, entitled Horké léto 2, was developed by Centauri Production and published in 1999 by JRC Interactive. A third game Žhavé léto 3 ½ is an action/adventure/driving game developed by Centauri Production and CINEMAX, published by Akella in 2006, which although unable to use the characters and titles of the first two games was related and rounded off what was effectively a trilogy. Žhavé léto 3 ½ was published in English, Spanish, French and German as Evil Days of Luckless John and in Russian as Сорвать Куш.

Indiana Jones a Chrám zkázy is a 1985 Czech text adventure game for ZX Spectrum computers and compatible hardware. It was authored by František Fuka. Two sequels were later produced entitled Indiana Jones II (1987) and Indiana Jones III (1990). The trilogy was later released in 1992 by Proxima Software as part of the Fuxoft brand "Fuxoft uvádí".

Poklad is a 1984 Czech text adventure video game for the ZX Spectrum and compatible systems, authored by František Fuka as his first text video game. It was published by Proxima Software as part of their "Fuxoft uvádí" series, with a newer version of the game entitled Poklad 2 designed in 1985 and released in 1992.
