The Fraternitas Scintilla Legis, otherwise known as Scintilla Legis, or simply FSL, is a law school-based fraternity in the Philippines. The name of the fraternity is derived from the Latin words scintilla which means spark, and legis which means law.
It was founded in 1974 by seven students at the College of Law of Xavier University in Cagayan de Oro. [1]
In 1980, a chapter was established in Silliman University and for many years, the two chapters co-existed. In 1996, a group of FSL alumni from Silliman University established a third chapter in Western Mindanao State University. In 2005 a chapter was established in Liceo de Cagayan University and in 2007 another chapter also followed in Bukidnon State University. At present, the fraternity is composed of five chapters, four in Mindanao and one in the Visayas. They meet annually in a national convention. [1]
Since its founding, members of the fraternity have gone through different areas in the practice of law and the three branches of the government, some becoming judges in the trial courts and the Court of Appeals of the Philippines. Among its notable members are Associate Justice Romulo Borja of the Court of Appeals, [2] former governor and congressman George Arnaiz of the Province of Negros Oriental, and Atty. Burt Estrada, the current National President of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP).
The Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan, also known simply as the Ateneo de Cagayan, Xavier or XU is a private, Catholic, coeducational, basic and higher education institution. It is operated by the Philippine Province of the Society of Jesus in Cagayan de Oro, Misamis Oriental, Philippines. Founded in 1933 as the Ateneo de Cagayan, it became the first higher education institution in Mindanao to receive a university status a year before its sister school Ateneo de Manila. It was given its present name in honor of the Jesuit missionary St. Francis Xavier.

Founded in 1910, it is one of the oldest premier universities in the southern Philippines. CMU is recognized by the Commission on Higher Education (Philippines) as the Center of Excellence in the field of Agriculture, Forestry, Veterinary Medicine and Biology; and Center of Development in Mathematics, Environmental Science and Teacher Education. In 2017, CMU became the first higher education institution in Mindanao to be awarded with Institutional Accreditation by the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines.
Juan Romeo Nereus Olaivar Acosta, popularly known as Neric Acosta, is a Filipino politician, academician, and political scientist in the Philippines. He is a former member of the Philippine House of Representatives, representing the first district of the province of Bukidnon from 1998 to 2007. He was the Presidential Adviser for Environmental Protection and General Manager of the Laguna Lake Development Authority during the administration of President Benigno Aquino III.
The Sigma Rho Fraternity (ΣΡ) is a College of Law-based fraternity in the University of the Philippines Diliman. Having been formally organized in 1938, it is the oldest law-based Greek-letter fraternity in Asia. However, it has also expanded its membership base to include undergraduate students, including those studying for degrees in engineering, business, and sports science. The Aquila Legis Fraternity (ΑLF) is a Filipino fraternity exclusively based in the Ateneo de Manila School of Law in Quezon City, Philippines. Founded by Joaquin Lorenzo E. Misa, the first bossman or "Honorable Praeses" in 1949, it is the first fraternity founded by students, and the first fraternity in the Philippines using Latin nomenclature, preceding several Philippine law-based fraternities with names derived from Latin.
The Silliman University College of Law is one of the constituent colleges of Silliman University, a private university in Dumaguete, Philippines. The college was founded in 1935 with Emilio Javier and Felix Gaudiel as pioneers. When the college opened, it offered a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) program, but in 2009 it shifted its offering to Juris Doctor (JD). Beta Sigma Omega Phi is a service fraternity and sorority founded at University of Bohol on October 10, 1968. This was organized by Frank Paz Jr., Frederick Loor, and Remy Galbizo. Their aims were to foster lifetime brotherhood and sisterhood and to build noble leaders and better citizens. Members are encouraged to promote the welfare of students and to work for better and greater involvement in the affairs of the school as well as in the community. The organization facilitates a variety of community civic involvement, and services like tree planting, feeding programs, bloodletting, operation tuli, and lately the Brigada Eskwela. Betans 1968 have established 72 collegiate chapters throughout Philippines; most of these are on the island of Mindanao.
DXJR was a radio station owned by Cagayan de Oro Media Corporation. After existing as a commercial station in Cagayan de Oro from 2005 to 2012, it left the air before being taken over by the Rizal Memorial Colleges Broadcasting Corporation in 2014 and moved to Manolo Fortich. After being relaunched in 2017, DXJR provided programming for the Lumad community. Under harassment from government supporters, the station ceased broadcasting in January 2019.
