Frederica Darema is a Greek American physicist. She proposed the SPMD programming model in 1984 and Dynamic Data Driven Application Systems (DDDAS) in 2000. She was elected IEEE Fellow in 2004. [1]
Darema received her BS degree from the school of physics and mathematics of the University of Athens - Greece, [2] and MS and Ph. D. degrees in theoretical nuclear physics from the Illinois Institute of Technology and the University of California at Davis, respectively, where she attended as a Fulbright Scholar and a distinguished scholar. [2] After physics research associate positions at the University of Pittsburgh and Brookhaven National Laboratory, she received an APS Industrial Fellowship and became a technical staff member in the nuclear sciences department at Schlumberger Doll Research. Subsequently, in 1982, she joined the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center as a research staff member in the computer sciences department and later on she established and became the manager of a research group at IBM Research on parallel applications. Darema has been at the National Science Foundation since 1994, where she has managed the New Generation Software and Dynamic Data Driven Application Systems programs. During 1996-1998 she completed a two-year assignment at DARPA. She is now at the Air Force Office of Scientific Research. [2]
Jack Joseph Dongarra is an American computer scientist and mathematician. He is the American University Distinguished Professor of Computer Science in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department at the University of Tennessee. He holds the position of a Distinguished Research Staff member in the Computer Science and Mathematics Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Turing Fellowship in the School of Mathematics at the University of Manchester, and is an adjunct professor and teacher in the Computer Science Department at Rice University. He served as a faculty fellow at the Texas A&M University Institute for Advanced Study (2014–2018). Dongarra is the founding director of the Innovative Computing Laboratory at the University of Tennessee. He was the recipient of the Turing Award in 2021.
In computing, single program, multiple data (SPMD) is a term that has been used to refer to computational models for exploiting parallelism where-by multiple processors cooperate in the execution of a program in order to obtain results faster.
Dynamic Data Driven Applications Systems ("DDDAS") is a paradigm whereby the computation and instrumentation aspects of an application system are dynamically integrated with a feedback control loop, in the sense that instrumentation data can be dynamically incorporated into the executing model of the application, and in reverse the executing model can control the system's instrumentation to cognizantly and adaptively acquire additional data, which in-turn can improve or speedup the model. DDDAS-based approaches have been shown that they can enable more accurate and faster modeling and analysis of the characteristics and behaviors of a system and can exploit data in intelligent ways to convert them to new capabilities, including decision support systems with the accuracy of full-scale modeling, executing model-driven adaptive management of complex instrumentation, as well as efficient data collection, management, and data mining.

Amanda Randles is an American computer scientist who is the Alfred Winborne and Victoria Stover Mordecai Associate Professor of Biomedical Sciences at Duke University. Randles is an associate professor of biomedical engineering with secondary appointments in computer science, mathematics, and mechanical engineering and materials science. She is a member of the Duke Cancer Institute. Her research interests include biomedical simulation, machine learning, computational fluid dynamics, and high-performance computing.
