Frederick Thomas Gray was a Virginia attorney and Democratic Party politician. Governor J. Lindsay Almond appointed Gray to serve as Attorney General of Virginia after the resignation of Attorney General Albertis Harrison to run for Governor of Virginia during the Massive Resistance crisis in Virginia. Gray returned to private practice at Williams Mullen after Robert Young Button took office. Gray later served in the Virginia House of Delegates and the Virginia Senate as he continued his law practice.
The 2021 Virginia gubernatorial election was held on November 2,2021,to elect the next governor of Virginia. The election was concurrent with other elections for Virginia state offices. Incumbent Democratic Governor Ralph Northam was ineligible to run for re-election,as the Constitution of Virginia prohibits governors from serving consecutive terms. Businessman Glenn Youngkin won the Republican nomination at the party's May 8 convention,which was held in 37 polling locations across the state,and was officially declared the nominee on May 10. The Democratic Party held its primary election on June 8,which former Governor Terry McAuliffe easily won.
Jean Louise Harris was an American physician and politician. The first black woman to graduate from the Medical College of Virginia,she went on to serve on the faculty there before being appointed Virginia Secretary of Human Resources by Governor John N. Dalton. Harris moved to Minnesota,where she ran in the Republican primary for lieutenant governor in 1990 and eventually for mayor of Eden Prairie. She was mayor until her death from lung cancer in 2001.
The 1989 Virginia lieutenant gubernatorial election was held on November 7,1989. Democratic nominee Don Beyer defeated Republican nominee Edwina P. Dalton with 54.14% of the vote.
