The French Medical Institute for Mothers and Children (FMIC) is a hospital in Kabul, Afghanistan, established in 2006 through a unique partnership between the government of France and the government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. The institute claims to have implemented eHealth solutions including tele-consultations. [1]

FMIC offers healthcare services, encompassing inpatient care, clinical consultations, diagnostic services, eHealth solutions, 24/7 pharmacy services, and advanced medical procedures. These encompass a variety of specialties including neurology, adult cardiac care with a catheterization lab, cardiac surgery, orthopedics, ENT, ophthalmology, obstetrics and gynecology. Additionally, FMIC provides physiotherapy, vision care, and dental services.

A significant achievement occurred in 2006 when FMIC successfully conducted Afghanistan's inaugural open-heart pediatric cardiac surgery, a procedure performed on a 13-year-old girl. Subsequent developments included the commencement of construction in 2012 for a new 52-bed wing dedicated to obstetric and gynecologic care, alongside the establishment of a 14-bed neonatal intensive care unit to enhance critical care facilities for newborns.
