Full Moon Productions was a record company started in 1991 [1] [2] by Jon "Thorns" Jamshid from Lakeland, Florida.
After releasing the first issue of Petrified 'Zine in August 1993, [3] Thorns decided to sign several black metal bands, which included Burzum, Hades (later known as Hades Almighty), Algaion, Nåstrond, and Vlad Tepes. During this time he worked closely with Count Grishnackh of Burzum and Euronymous of Mayhem. Soon after, FMP signed Mysticum, Black Funeral, Abruptum, Swordmaster, and others.
Petrified 'Zine continued for several issues containing several explicit interviews with Count Grishnackh of Burzum and Bård Faust of Emperor, plus many obscure underground black metal interviews and reviews. The magazine was mentioned in Lords of Chaos as a fanzine "which glorifies the more notorious members of the scene from Norway". [4] However, the authors did not mention Full Moon Productions, and falsified the message of a quote from the fanzine, claiming that Faust, who had stabbed a homosexual man in 1992, "states that homosexuals 'are nice to put knives into'", [4] whereas the original statement goes: "Basically I don't care about them (as long as they keep to their own people), but...what can I say...they are nice to put knives into...". [5] The fourth and last issue was released in winter 1996. [3]
In the late 1990s, Full Moon Productions put out the A Tribute to Hell – Satanic Rites compilation CD. This double included tracks by Mayhem, Acheron, Thy Infernal, Tartaros, Centurian, Swordmaster, Outbreak, Naglfar, Thy Primordial, Sacramentum and others, some of which were exclusive contributions to the CD. The cover was done by Joe Petagno, who is known for the Motörhead artwork.

Full Moon Productions officially ceased label and distribution operations in 2012; [1] however, its last official release, the debut release from Portland, Oregon's Clair Cassis, was released in March 2010.
Black metal is an extreme subgenre of heavy metal music. Common traits include fast tempos, a shrieking vocal style, heavily distorted guitars played with tremolo picking, raw (lo-fi) recording, unconventional song structures, and an emphasis on atmosphere. Artists often appear in corpse paint and adopt pseudonyms.
Burzum is a Norwegian music project founded by Varg Vikernes in 1991. Although Burzum never played live performances, it became a part of the early Norwegian black metal scene and is considered one of the most influential acts in the history of black metal. He has also released four dark ambient and neofolk albums. The word "burzum" means "darkness" in the black speech, a fictional language crafted by Lord of the Rings writer J. R. R. Tolkien. Burzum's lyrics and imagery are often inspired by fantasy and Norse mythology, and do not feature the political views Vikernes is known for.
National Socialist black metal, also known as NSBM, Aryan black metal or Neo-Nazi black metal, is a political movement within black metal music that promotes neo-Nazism and other white supremacist ideologies. NSBM artists typically combine neo-Nazi imagery and ideology with ethnic European paganism, Satanism, or Nazi occultism, or a combination thereof, and vehemently oppose Christianity, Islam and Judaism from a racialist viewpoint. NSBM is not seen as a distinct genre, but as a neo-völkisch movement within black metal. According to Mattias Gardell, NSBM musicians see this ideology as "a logical extension of the political and spiritual dissidence inherent in black metal".
Louis Cachet, professionally known as Varg Vikernes, is a Norwegian musician and writer. In 1991, he founded the one-man music project Burzum, which became one of the most influential black metal acts. In 1994, he was convicted of murder and arson, and subsequently served 15 years in prison.
Per Yngve Ohlin, better known by his stage name Dead and nickname Pelle, was a Swedish black metal musician, best known as the lead vocalist and lyricist of the Norwegian black metal band Mayhem from 1988 until his suicide in 1991. He also performed as vocalist of the Swedish death metal band Morbid on their demo December Moon. Dead was a popular figure of the Norwegian black metal scene. Roadrunner Records ranked him No. 48 out of 50 of The Greatest Metal Front-Men of All Time.
Øystein Aarseth, better known by his stage name Euronymous, was a Norwegian musician. Euronymous was a founder of and central figure in the early Norwegian black metal scene. He was a co-founder and guitarist of the Norwegian black metal band Mayhem and was the only constant member from the band's formation in 1984 until his death in 1993. He was also founder and owner of the extreme metal record label Deathlike Silence Productions and record shop Helvete.
Mayhem is a Norwegian black metal band formed in 1984 in Oslo, Norway. They were one of the founders of the Norwegian black metal scene and their music has strongly influenced the black metal genre. Mayhem's early career was highly controversial, primarily due to their notorious live performances, the 1991 suicide of vocalist Per Yngve Ohlin ("Dead") and the 1993 murder of guitarist Øystein Aarseth ("Euronymous") by former member Varg Vikernes of Burzum.

Lords of Chaos: The Bloody Rise of the Satanic Metal Underground is a book by Michael Moynihan and Didrik Søderlind. It is an account of the early Norwegian black metal scene, with a focus on the string of church burnings and murders that occurred in the country around 1993. A film adaptation of the book was directed by Swedish director Jonas Åkerlund in 2018. The book has been the subject of controversy over the alleged political leanings of author Michael Moynihan, though Moynihan denies these allegations.
Deathlike Silence Productions (DSP) was a Norwegian independent record label founded in Oslo in 1987 that focused on black metal. DSP supported the black metal revival in the early 1990s. Helvete was the headquarters of DSP.
Thorns is a Norwegian black metal band that formed in 1989 and was part of the early Norwegian black metal scene. They made two highly influential demos in the early 1990s, Grymyrk and Trøndertun, but have only released one full-length album.
De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas is the debut studio album by the Norwegian black metal band Mayhem. Songwriting began in 1987, but due to the suicide of vocalist Per "Dead" Ohlin and the murder of guitarist Øystein "Euronymous" Aarseth, the album's release was delayed until May 1994. De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas is widely considered one of the most influential black metal albums of all time. It is the band's only studio album to feature Aarseth and Varg "Count Grishnackh" Vikernes.
Jan Axel Blomberg is a Norwegian heavy metal drummer, known professionally as Hellhammer. He is best known as the drummer of Mayhem, which he joined in 1988. In 1987 Blomberg formed the avant-garde black metal band Arcturus with Steinar Sverd Johnsen, which broke up in April 2007 and reunited in 2011. He named himself after the Swiss extreme metal band Hellhammer. Praised as a talented musician, Blomberg is a three-time winner of the Spellemannprisen award.
Hvis lyset tar oss is the third studio album by Norwegian black metal solo project Burzum. It was recorded in September 1992, but was not released until April 1994, whereupon it was released through Misanthropy Records and Vikernes' own record label, Cymophane Productions. The album is considered a cult classic within the black metal scene.
Bård Guldvik "Faust" Eithun is a Norwegian drummer and convicted murderer. He is best known for his work with early black metal band Emperor, especially on the releases As the Shadows Rise and In the Nightside Eclipse, and the murder of Magne Andreassen. He also writes lyrics for other bands, including Zyklon. In 2013, it was announced that Faust would return to Emperor as drummer for the 20th-anniversary tour of In the Nightside Eclipse in the summer of 2014. He has been the drummer for Blood Tsunami since 2005 and Djevel since 2017.
Les Légions Noires was an avant-garde group of French underground black metal musicians and their bands, centered mostly around the city of Brest, in Brittany. The bands involved limited their releases to very small numbers, and distributed them among friends and close workers.
Hades Almighty is a black metal band from Bergen, Norway. They were formed in 1992, originally under the moniker Hades. They were forced to change their name to Hades Almighty in 1998, following complaints from an American band with a prior claim to the name.

Lords of Chaos is a 2018 horror-thriller film directed by Jonas Åkerlund and written by Dennis Magnusson and Åkerlund. Adapted from the 1998 book of the same name, the film is a historical fiction account of the early 1990s Norwegian black metal scene told from the perspective of Mayhem co-founder Euronymous. It stars Rory Culkin as Euronymous, Emory Cohen as Varg Vikernes, Jack Kilmer as Dead, and Sky Ferreira as Ann-Marit.
