Funhouse (stylized as FunHouse) [2] is the third studio album by American rapper and producer Prettifun, released on September 29, 2024.

Contents

Blending elements of experimental hip-hop, rage rap, and electronic textures, Funhouse was described as Prettifun’s most fully realized work to date, expanding on the distorted style he developed on earlier singles and EPs.

Background

Prior to the release of Funhouse, Prettifun had gained a following through SoundCloud uploads and underground collaborations. The album was first teased in September 2024 through social media posts and snippets on platforms such as TikTok and Instagram, where tracks like "Feel Like Uzi" and "Killem" quickly built anticipation. Prettifun would post a now deleted snippet of ‘Man Of The Year’, featuring 9lives, a song that pushed the hype of the album but was never planned to be released due to sample clearance issues.

Prettifun's previous album, Pretti, was produced solely by him, while FunHouse took on multiple producers.

Pitchfork 7.4/10 [1]

FunHouse received strong acclaim from critics, particularly for its maximalist production and exuberant energy.

Pitchfork gave the album 7.4 out of 10, with critic Jude Noel noting that Prettifun's "maximalist songs mimic the hyperactive atmosphere of Nintendo side-scrollers" Pitchfork. Noel praised the artist’s “baby-voiced rage-rap dense with uplifting sentiments,” highlighting the project’s ability to meld distortion and sweetness into a transgressive form of expression Pitchfork. He commended Prettifun's growth as both vocalist and personality, pointing to the production contributions of Iankon and Ginseng as key in maintaining the album’s "consistent level of mania" while allowing each track to stand as its own statement Pitchfork.

Tracks like Feel Like Uzi and Fedswatchin were noted for their aggressive, distorted textures that subvert playful melodies into "bruised-fruit sweetness"—evoking a "balance between bliss and brutality" reminiscent of early noise-pop acts like Wavves and Cloud Nothings Pitchfork. Noel further observed Prettifun's DIY ethos, especially on tracks like Z&S—where he shouts out supporters by name—and Feel Like Uzi, whose hook serves as a rallying cry encouraging listeners to pick up their own creative tools.
