In the boys' futsal tournament at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics, each team had to name a preliminary squad of 20 players (minimum three must be goalkeepers). From the preliminary squad, the team had to name a final squad of 10 players (minimum two must be goalkeepers) by the FIFA deadline. [1]

Football was inducted at the Youth Olympic Games at the inaugural edition in 2010 for both boys and girls.
The 2017 AFC U-20 Futsal Championship was the first edition of the AFC U-20 Futsal Championship, the biennial international futsal championship organised by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for the men's youth national teams of Asia. The tournament was hosted by Thailand between 16 and 26 May 2017. Iran and Thailand had signaled their intent to host the inaugural competition.
The 2018 AFC Women's Futsal Championship was the second edition of the AFC Women's Futsal Championship, the biennial international futsal championship organized by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for the women's national teams of Asia. It took place in Thailand, which was appointed as hosts by the AFC on 29 July 2017, between 2 and 12 May 2018. The tournament was originally to be held between 15–26 August 2017, two years after the inaugural edition in 2015, but was postponed to the following year.

The 2018 African Youth Olympic Futsal Qualifying Tournament was an international youth futsal competition organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as qualifying for the futsal tournament at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires, to determine which under-18 national team from Africa qualify for the boys' tournament.
Malaysia competed at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires, Argentina from 6 October to 18 October 2018. The chef-de-mission of the contingent was former two-time Olympian archer Cheng Chu Sian. Malaysia won its first gold medal at an Olympic event, having previously won silver and bronze medals.
The 2018 South American Under-18 Futsal Championship was the 2nd edition of the South American Under-18 Futsal Championship, the biennial international youth futsal championship organised by the CONMEBOL for the men's under-18 national teams of South America. The 2021 FIFA Futsal World Cup was an international futsal tournament to held in Lithuania from September 12 to October 3, 2021. The 24 national teams involved in the tournament were required by FIFA to register a squad of 16 players, including three goalkeepers. Despite this, each team can only use 14 players per match.
