The Fyllingen Lions are a men's basketball club based in Fyllingsdalen (Bergen), Norway. The team competes in the BLNO.

History

The club was founded in 1997 under the name Vestkanten BBK, originally serving as a development team affiliated with the regional basketball federation, Hordaland Basketballkrets, focusing on youth recruitment in western Bergen. [1]

In the 2002–03 season, responsibility for the youth teams was transferred to the sports club Loddefjord IL. However, a senior men’s team continued to operate under the Vestkanten name. The following season (2003–04), former students from the local Fyllingsdalen upper secondary school, led by Lasse Solbakken, re-established a senior basketball team under the Fyllingen name. The club adopted the Fyllingen identity from that point onward. [1]

When the local basketball club Frøya relocated its activities from Fyllingsdalshallen (a local sports facility) to another part of Bergen, Fyllingen BBK began developing youth teams again, expanding its organizational structure. [1]

Identity and Symbolism

The club’s former logo incorporated its team colors, the orange typically associated with basketball, and a blue sydvest—a traditional waterproof fisherman’s hat common along Norway’s southwest coast. This hat symbol reflected both the club’s geographic identity in Fyllingsdalen and its cultural ties to the former top-tier football club Fyllingen, which also used the sydvest as a trademark. The imagery also aligned with the name of a local newspaper, Sydvesten ("The Southwester"), reinforcing the club’s community connection. [1]

In 2024, the club rebranded as Fyllingen Lions, updating their logo while retaining the original colors. [2]
