G. Ashok is an Indian film director and screenwriter who works predominantly in Telugu cinema. Ashok made his directorial debut Ushodayam (2007) which won him Nandi Award for Best Children's Film Director. He went on to direct films such as Aakasa Ramanna, Pilla Zamindar , Sukumarudu , Chitrangada, and Bhaagamathie.

Personal life

G. Ashok was born in Tenali, Andhra Pradesh. He married Vijaya in 2009, and the couple has three children. [1]

Career

He is a classical dancer and good at 13 various Indian classical dances. T Krishna cast him in Repati Pourulu when he was 6 years old. Later, he worked as a child artist in 15 films. He made his debut as a dance assistant in 1997 and worked for over 300 songs as a choreographer and dance assistant. He has worked under dance masters like DKS Babu, Swarnalatha, Lawrence and Raju Sundaram. He worked for films like Master, Annamayya, Pelli, Osey Ramulamma and Jeans. Director Bala was his roommate when he was in Chennai. [2]

He received a Nandi Award for Best Director for a Children's Film for his directorial debut Ushodayam (2007). [1] [3]

In 2010, he directed Aakasa Ramanna, starring Allari Naresh. [4] [5] In 2011, he directed Pilla Zamindar with Nani and Haripriya on the lead. In 2013, he directed Sukumarudu with Aadi and Nisha Agarwal. He is best known for his work on Bhaagamathie (2018) with Anushka Shetty. [6]

Ashok, produced by Manyam Ramesh under Manyam Entertainments banner and starring Allari Naresh, Sivaji, Rajiv Kanakala, Meera Jasmine and Gowri Pandit in the lead roles. The film's soundtrack was composed by Chakri and Cinematography was handled by Sai Sriram. Dialogues for the film were written by Chandrashekar Gundimeda while Screenplay was handled also by G. Ashok. This was G. Ashok's second film as director. It marked the debut for editor Prawin Pudi. The film was released on 12 March 2010.

Pilla Zamindar is a 2011 Indian Telugu-language coming-of-age comedy drama film written and directed by G. Ashok. The film stars Nani, Haripriya, and Bindu Madhavi while Srinivas Avasarala, Dhanraj, Thagubothu Ramesh, Rao Ramesh and Nagineedu play supporting roles. Inspired by the South Korean film A Millionaire's First Love (2006), and The Ultimate Gift (2006), the plot follows Praveen "PJ" Jayaramaraju (Nani), an arrogant youngster who is set to inherit his grandfather's wealth but must fulfil certain conditions in order to do so. Bhaagamathie is a 2018 Indian thriller film written and directed by G. Ashok. The films stars Anushka Shetty in the title role while Jayaram, Unni Mukundan, Murali Sharma, and Asha Sarath play other pivotal roles. Shot simultaneously in Telugu and Tamil, the film revolves around a former district collector imprisoned in a haunted house. At the same time, she is interrogated by law enforcers investigating a politician they suspect of corruption. Principal photography commenced in June 2016 in Hyderabad, and the film was released on 26 January 2018 in Telugu and Tamil along with a dubbed Malayalam version. The film is a commercial success, grossing over ₹26 crore. With Bhaagamathie, Anushka Shetty emerged the second Indian actress after Sridevi to have a $1 million grosser at the US box office. The film was remade in Hindi as Durgamati (2020).

Anushka Shetty is an Indian actress who appears in Telugu and Tamil films. She made her acting debut in Puri Jagannadh's 2005 Telugu film Super, and appeared in Mahanandi, released later the same year. The following year, she had four releases, the first being S. S. Rajamouli's Vikramarkudu, which helped her gain recognition, followed by Astram, the Sundar C.-directed Rendu,, and a special appearance in AR Murugadoss' Telugu film Stalin. She had two releases in 2007: Lakshyam and Don. In 2008, she appeared in six films, including Okka Magaadu, Swagatam and Souryam. In 2009, Shetty played two roles in the fantasy Arundhati. She went on to win the Nandi Special Jury Award and the Filmfare Best Telugu Actress Award for this film. Her next release that year was Billa, a Telugu remake of the 2007 Tamil film of the same name. Her final release in 2009 was her second Tamil feature film, the masala film Vettaikaaran, where she appeared as a medical student.
