Grappling Fight Team (most commonly known as GFTeam) is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) academy and team.

History

It was started in 1993 as part of Universidade Gama Filho, a university in Rio de Janeiro as Universidade Gama Filho (UGF) or Gama Filho Jiu-Jitsu. [2]

It was developed under coaches Pedro Gama Filho and Paulo Jardim then under Julio Cesar Pereira, Marcus Bello and Alexandre Baraúna. In 2004 the team cut ties with the university following the death of Pedro Filho, in 2007 Julio Cesar founded Grappling Fight Team or GFTeam. [3] GF Team headquarter is located in Bairro do Meier, Rio de Janeiro. [1] Grappling fight team has more than 30 affiliate academies in the world. [3]

In 2023, GFTeam was ranked No.9 for male and No.2 for female athletes at the 2023 World Jiu-Jitsu Championship. [4] GFTeam was ranked No.3 in the IBJJF Top 10 Academy Rankings for the 2022/2023 season. [5]

On September 13, 2023, GFTeam announced that they were merging with JiuArt in order to form a new competition team. [6] [7] [8]

Tayane Porfírio de Araújo is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) 4x World Championship black belt champion. In 2017 Porfirio realized the IBJJF Grand Slam after winning her weight category and the absolute category at all 4 major Gi Championships: World Championship, European Open Championship, Pan Jiu-Jitsu Championship and Brazilian Nationals Championship.

Laurence Cousin Fouillat is a French submission grappler and third degree black belt Brazilian jiu-jitsu competitor and instructor. Considered a pioneer in the sport, Cousin is regarded as the first European female to receive a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. In 2005 she won the CBJJO World Jiu-Jitsu Cup and medalled at the IBJJF World Championship taking place in Rio de Janeiro. In 2007 Cousin became the first woman from outside Brazil to become IBJJF World jiu-jitsu champion.

The Grand Slam in Brazilian jiu-jitsu is the achievement of winning all four major IBJJF tournaments in a calendar year. The four Grand Slam tournaments are the World IBJJF Championship, the European IBJJF Championship, Pan IBJJF Championship and the CBJJ Brazilian National Championship. Winning all four tournaments within a single year is widely considered the most prestigious accomplishment in Brazilian jiu-jitsu competition.

Julio Cesar Pereira is an 8th degree red and white belt coral belt Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) practitioner from Brazil.
