GTel Zimbabwe (popularly known as GTel) is a Zimbabwean owned company that develops and manufactures ICT products and services. [1] [2] [3] It is the first locally owned mobile phone manufacturer in Zimbabwe. [4] [5] [6] In 2014, GTel launched the SL 5.5 which became the 2nd slimmest mobile phone handset in the world behind the Asian Oppo that year. [7]

Flagship Phones

GTel's flagship line is called “Infinity” with a numeral at the end used to denote the superiority in the product lineup.

Infinity X

The Infinity X(also known as the Infinity 10) is GTel's current flagship phone. It was launched on 14 February 2022, and its the direct successor of the Infinity 9. [8] The Infinity X boasts a 48 MP Main Camera, 5 MP Ultra Wide Camera and a 2 MP Depth Camera. It has a display of 6.7 inches, (84.8% screen-to-body ratio) and it runs on Android 11. It has 4 GB RAM and 128 GB ROM that is expandable. [9] The Infinity X also comes 6000mah of battery capacity.

Infinity 9

The Infinity 9 is the direct predecessor to the Infinity X. It arguably the most popular of all GTel phones. The Infinity 9 comes packed with a 6.5-inch display, 13 MP Camera, 3 GB RAM & 64 GB ROM expandable to 256 GB. It has dual SIM and a battery capacity of 5000 mAh. [10]

History

GTel Zimbabwe was founded in October 2009 as a franchise of G-Tide Mobile International. [11] It re-branded to GTel in July 2011. [4] GTel Zimbabwe was founded by Chamunorwa Shumba and Cheryl Shumba. GTel is headquartered in Harare and Shumba is the founding chief executive officer. [12]

As of 2015, GTel had one million mobile phone users in Zimbabwe. [5] In 2015, the company expanded its operations to Kenya. [13] The company released three new phone models in 2018, including the X7 that has wireless charging. [14] [15]

G'Five International Limited is a Chinese consumer electronics company headquartered in Shenzhen, Guangdong and registered in Hong Kong. Founded in 2003, the company specialises in manufacturing mobile phones, smartphones to emerging markets under G'Five brand.

Micromax Informatics is an Indian multinational manufacturer of consumer electronics and home appliances, headquartered in Gurugram. It was established in March 2000 as an IT software company operating in embedded systems. It entered the mobile phone business in 2008 and, by 2010, became one of the largest companies making low-cost feature phones in India.

The Samsung Galaxy Star is a low-end smartphone manufactured by Samsung Electronics. It is running on Android 4.1.2(Jelly Bean). It has unofficial Android 4.4, 5.1, 6.0.1 and 7.1 roms. It was announced in April 2013, it was subsequently released in May 2013. It is the cheapest smartphone in the Samsung Galaxy series. Like all other Samsung Galaxy smartphones, the Galaxy Star runs on the Android mobile operating system. The phone is available in 2 versions: a single SIM version (GT-S5280) and a dual SIM version (GT-S5282). The phone competes with other low-cost smartphones such as the smartphones from the Nokia Asha series as well as low-cost smartphones manufactured by Indian manufacturers such as Micromax, Karbonn, Spice Digital, Lava International and Celkon. It is available in certain Asian countries such as India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Philippines, Indonesia etc. where low-cost smartphones are very popular as well as in Morocco, Algeria, South Africa, Portugal, France, Germany, Russia and Ukraine. Brazilian version is also released, dubbed GT-S5283B.

YU Televentures was an Indian consumer electronics brand, it was incorporated in November 2014 as a joint venture between Cyanogen Inc and Micromax Informatics Limited. Also, YU holds official Cyanogen OS rights in India. In December 2016 the CyanogenMod developer group discontinued the Cyanogen OS. Micromax co-founder Rahul Sharma owns a 99% controlling stake in YU while the remaining 1% is held by two other co-founders, Vikas Jain and Sumeet Arora. Later the YU subbrand of Micromax was discontinued by the brand and the official site redirected to Micromax's official website. YU Televentures was remade on 7 June 2019.

ZUK Mobile was a Chinese smartphone company founded in May 2015, and a subsidiary of Lenovo. It was headquartered in Beijing. The brand ceased operations in 2017, when Lenovo shifted its smartphone focus to Motorola.

The Sony Xperia XZ is an Android smartphone manufactured and marketed by Sony. Part of the Xperia X series, the device was announced to the public along with the Xperia X Compact at a press conference held at the annual IFA event on September 1, 2016. The Xperia XZ was first released in Taiwan on September 30, 2016, with worldwide sales starting with the United Arab Emirates on October 1 and the United States the following day; its home country Japan only started sales on November 2, 2016.

On 29 October 2014, GTel Zimbabwe launched the slimmest mobile phone handset in Africa and 2nd slimmest in the world in 2014, the Gtel SL 5.5 which is 5.60mm thin.

The Samsung Galaxy A50 is an Android smartphone manufactured by Samsung Electronics as part of its fifth-generation Galaxy A series lineup. It came with Android 9 Pie, 64 or 128 GB of internal storage, and a 4000 mAh battery. It was launched internationally on February 25, 2019 and in the United States on July 13, 2019.

The Samsung Galaxy A60 and Samsung Galaxy M40 are Android phablets manufactured by Samsung Electronics as part of its fifth-generation Galaxy A series lineup and first-generation Galaxy M series lineup. The phones feature Android 9 (Pie) with Samsung's proprietary One UI skin, 64 or 128 GB of internal storage, and a 3500 mAh battery. The A60 is marketed for China, while the M40 is marketed for India and other countries. The A60 and M40 are identical except for colors, pricing, RAM and LTE bands. The A60 was unveiled on April 17, 2019, while the M40 was unveiled on June 11, 2019.

The Samsung Galaxy F62 is a mid-range Android smartphone manufactured by Samsung Electronics as part of its Galaxy F series. It is the second phone to be released in the series. It has a 7000 mAh battery, a quad camera setup with a 64 MP main camera, as well as a 12 MP ultrawide camera, a 5 MP macro camera and a 5 MP depth sensor, a 6.7 in (17 cm) Super AMOLED Plus display and the Exynos 9825 SoC previously used in the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+ flagship smartphones.
