Gal Level is a R&B female duo from Windhoek, Namibia, made up of Daphne Willibard (born 1 April 1981) and Frieda Haindaka (born 1 February 1984). They are very popular in Southern Africa, and other African countries. They are produced and managed by continental music producers Ogopa Deejays of Kenya. They have been compared to US girl group Destiny's Child. [1]

Career

The duo have lived together for 8 years in Windhoek city. They started their career late in the 1990s as members of the hip hop group Dungeon Family. [2] The grouped released one album in 2000 before it broke up. After Dungeon Family broke up, the girls reconnected with Sula in 2003 who was the manager of Dungeon Family. Sula eventually signed them to his record label, Butterfly Entertainment.

Music

Gal Level's music is a fusion of rhythm and blues, Afro-pop, and dancehall inspired by life and by issues in Namibian society and is popular in southern Africa. [3] The girls released their first single "Shake It" in mid-2004, which created them a buzz and reintroduced them to mainstream music fans. The song also earned them comparison to Destiny's Child. Their second single '"Go Back to Her" was also successful, it earned them a Channel O nomination. The two songs became street anthems during 2004 and 2005 and won separate awards at the Sanlam-NBC Music Awards.

<i>You Cant Ignore</i> 2007 studio album by The Dogg

You Can't Ignore is the fourth album by The Dogg that was released on 5 October 2007 by Mshasho and KOOL Productions. The album was to be titled Mshasho: You Can't Ignore and was later changed prior to its release date. The album features the first collaboration between The Dogg and his music mentor Elvo. It also features the first collaboration between The Dogg and Qonja. This album is more mature and very different from his previous albums. It features a dark tone similar to his first release, Shimaliw' Osatana. The entire album is self-produced with DJ Kboz co-producing two songs. As of 2008, the album is the highest and fastest selling kwaito album in Namibia.

Malaika is a South African Afro-pop music group, which has been described as post-mbaqanga and neo-soul. The group consists of musicians Bongani Nchang and the late Jabulani Ndaba, and Matshediso Mholo.

Blu 3 was a Ugandan all-female band formed in April 2004 after winning the TV show Coca Cola Popstars. The name is contrived to mean 3 Beautiful Ladies from Uganda. Original members were Jackie Chandiru, Lilian Mbabazi and Cinderella Sanyu. After winning the contest, they went on to record the albums Hitaji (2004) and Burrn (2007). The Hitaji album spawned the hit singles "Hitaji", "Frisky" and the afro beat "Tomalaako". The girls launched Hitaji at lugogo cricket stadium in December 2004 with thousands of fans. The "Hitaji" video went on to win the Pearl of Africa Music Award for Video of the Year.

Tretius Kauhangengo, better known as Tre Van Die Kasie, most commonly referred to as Tre is a Namibian kwaito musician and rapper. Tre rose to fame after signing with Mshasho Productions in 2005. He is the half brother of fellow kwaito musician, Kavax.

Channel O Africa Music Video Awards, once known as Spirit of Africa Music Video Awards, are Pan-African music awards organised by South Africa -based Channel O television channel. The awards were first held in 2003 under the name Reel Music Video Awards. Since 2005 the awards have been held annually. The winners are voted by Channel O's viewers across the continent.

Naftalie Shigwedha Amukwelele commonly known as D-Naff, is a Namibian multiple award-winning and top selling rapper /singer, actor and a former street gangster. D-Naff sings inspirational Gospel / religious music in the style of kwaito, hip hop, kizomba, dancehall and afro-pop. D-Naff is also a motivational and inspirational speaker and has visited more than 100 schools, Universities and colleges in Namibia including the Namibia University of Science and Technology formerly The Polytechnic of Namibia, Windhoek College of Education, Ongwediva College of Education and the University of Namibia.

The Namibian Annual Music Awards (NAMA) ceremony was the biggest awards ceremony in Namibia. It was established in 2011 by MTC Namibia and the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC). They would award a NAMA trophy to musicians in recognition of their outstanding achievements in the music industry of Namibia. Along with the trophy, musicians receive sponsorships, endorsement deals and cash prizes.

Lady May is a Namibian singer. She came to fame in 2004 with the release of her first album Kamali which won her her first award at the Sanlam-NBC Music Awards. Anges d'Afrik is a French afro-beat and an afro-pop music group of Congolese origin formed in 2005 which is made up of Keva Keva, Stone Warley, Charnel Playboy and Manolo. They describe their music like Afro-pop, and their music is influenced by a mix of dance rhythms, R'n'B, African zouk, coupé-décalé and ndombolo genres.

Atushe is a Namibian musician, based in Windhoek, Namibia. With a career spanning nine years, he has produced numerous hits and five albums to date. Atushe started singing at an early age in a family choir, Sunday school then later on in a school choir. Atushe won a best body builder title in 2010.

Allan Toniks born Allan Ampaire is a Ugandan singer, songwriter, guitarist and record producer. He has worked and shared stages with several local and international artistes including the Goodlyfe Crew, P Square, General Ozzy (Zambia), Proff (Kenya), Petersen Zagaze (Zambia), Urban Boyz, Gal Level (Namibia), Beenie Man, Genista, (Jamaica) Sean Kingston, Jidenna, Sean Paul, Roberto (Zambia), Stella Mwangi as well as Flavour N'abania of Nigeria. He has also been nominated and won several awards. He is of Western Uganda's export with likes of Juliana Kanyomozi, Angella Katatumba and Ray G.
