Ganemat Sekhon (born 29 November 2000) is an Indian sport shooter who specializes in skeet. At the 2021 ISSF World Cup in New Delhi, Sekhon became the first Indian to win a medal in the Women's skeet event of an ISSF World Cup. [1] She is right handed and is right eye dominant. [2] She is part of the Indian shooting team at the Asian Games, Hangzhou, China. She was part of the Indian women's skeet team along with Darshna Rathore and Parinaaz Dhaliwal, that finished fourth in the Asian Games shooting competitions. [3]

She is back at the National camp after Asian Games to prepare for the World Cup to book a slot for the Olympics. [4]

Early life

Sekhon was born at Chandigarh, a union territory of India on 29 November 2000. [5] [6]

Career

Sekhon began shooting in 2015 on the instruction of her father Amrinder Singh when she was 15. [7] She made her international debut at the ISSF Junior World Cup in 2016 at Suhl in which she placed 33.

In 2018, she become the first Indian female skeet shooter to win a medal at the ISSF Junior World Cup at Sydney, Australia when she won the bronze. [8] She won the Asian Championships silver medal in 2019. [9] Sekhon won bronze in the 2021 ISSF Shooting World Cup Women's Skeet event at New Delhi, the first for India in a women's event. [10] [11] She also won a gold in Skeet Mixed Team and a silver in Skeet Women Team at the same venue. [12] [13]

At the 2021 ISSF Junior World Championships, Sekhon won gold and silver in the Women's Skeet team and individual event, respectively. [14]

Sekhon won gold in the Skeet Mixed Team event along with Mairaj Ahmad Khan at the 2023 ISSF World Cup in Cairo. [15] This was followed by a silver medal in the Skeet Women event in Almaty. [16]

Raiza Dhillon is an Indian sport shooter. She secured an Olympic quota berth for the 2024 Summer Olympics in the women's skeet event by winning a gold medal at the Asian Shotgun Championships, an Asian Olympic qualifier event on 20 January 2024 at Kuwait City. She became the first Indian woman to potentially qualify for an Olympic skeet event. It also brought the Indian Olympic quota count to 19. The quota berth won by a shooter is a berth for the country and the Federation, which can nominate any shooter for Olympics, as per set criteria.
