It is on the eastern side of the Vikna archipelago on the island of Inner-Vikna. The 1.82-square-kilometre (450-acre) village has a population (2018) of 3,129 and a population density of 1,719 inhabitants per square kilometre (4,450/sq mi).
The Nærøysund Bridge is a suspension bridge that crosses the Nærøysundet strait between the islands of Marøya and Vikna in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located about 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) south of the village of Rørvik. Together with the Marøysund Bridge, it connects the islands of Vikna to the mainland. The Nærøysund Bridge is 701 metres (2,300 ft) long, the main span is 325 metres (1,066 ft), and the maximum clearance to the sea is 41 metres (135 ft). The bridge has 17 spans. The Nærøysund Bridge was opened in 1981, when it briefly held the title of the world's longest cable-stay bridge.

Austafjord is a small village in the municipality of Vikna in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located on the island of Ytter-Vikna, approximately 30 kilometres (19 mi) west of the municipal center, Rørvik. Austafjord sits about half-way between the nearby villages of Garstad and Valøya. Austafjord has a population of about 30, as well as a shop, a school, and a day-care center. Austafjord is the western terminus of Norwegian County Road 770.
Inner-Vikna is the largest of the three major islands in the municipality of Vikna in Trøndelag county, Norway. The 99.2-square-kilometre (38.3 sq mi) island is located in the eastern part of the municipality and it includes the village of Rørvik, the administrative centre of Vikna.

The village is located at the southwestern end of the Kvingra peninsula, just across the Nærøysundet from the village of Rørvik. It is much closer to Rørvik than to its own municipal centre, Kolvereid. The village of Torstad lies about 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) north of Ottersøya. The Marøysund Bridge and Nærøysund Bridge lie just south of Ottersøya.

The 57-square-kilometre (22 sq mi) island is the site of Vikna Wind Farm near Garstad. The island is the middle island of the three main islands, hence its name which means "middle-Vikna". The Norwegian County Road 770 connects the three islands to the mainland via the Nærøysund Bridge.
Vikna Wind Farm is located on Husfjellet, just west of the village of Garstad on the island Mellom-Vikna in the municipality of Vikna in Trøndelag county, Norway. The wind farm consists of five wind turbines, with an installed capacity of 2.2 megawatts (3,000 hp), with an average annual production of 5.8 gigawatt-hours (21 TJ). The wind farm began operation in 1991 and is owned by Nord-Trøndelag Elektrisitetsverk.

Valøy Church is a chapel of the Church of Norway in Vikna municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located in the village of Valøya on the western coast of the island of Ytter-Vikna. It is an annex chapel for the Vikna parish which is part of the Namdal prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Nidaros. The wooden chapel building is a former school building in Valøya. It was converted to a chapel in 1972 and the building was consecrated on 20 August 1972 by Bishop Tord Godal. The church seats about 150 people.
Rørvik Church was a parish church of the Church of Norway in Vikna municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located in the village of Rørvik on the island of Inner-Vikna. It was one of the churches for the Vikna parish which is part of the Namdal prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Nidaros. The church was damaged in a fire in 2013 and it was subsequently torn down in preparation for the construction of a new church in 2018.
Garstad Church is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Vikna municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located in the village of Garstad on the island of Mellom-Vikna. It is the main church for the Vikna parish which is part of the Namdal prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Nidaros. The white, wooden church was built in a long church style in 1856 by the architect Arne Sørvik. The church seats about 320 people.
Nærøysund is a new municipality that will be located in Trøndelag county, Norway. It will be located in the traditional district of Namdalen. The administrative centre of the municipality has not yet been decided. The municipality will be established on 1 January 2020 after the merger of the old municipalities of Vikna and Nærøy along with the part of Leka Municipality located on the island of Austra. The Lund area of the old Nærøy municipality will not be part of the new Nærøysund municipality, but instead it will join the newly enlarged Namsos Municipality on 1 January 2020.
Lauvøya is an island in Vikna municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. The island lies along the Nærøysundet, northeast of the island of Inner-Vikna. The island of Gjerdinga lies just northeast of Lauvøya.
