Gary Tomkins (born March 4, 1966) is an American dirt modified racing driver. Tomkins has 146 feature event wins in the U.S., Canada and Australia. [1]

Racing career

Gary Tomkins gutted a Dodge Challenger at the age of 15 and entered it in the Street Stock class at the Canandaigua Speedway NY, winning 26 times over the following two years. Gary then spent the next few years attending college and working for chassis builder Maynard Troyer, while piecing together a Sportsman car, which he raced to Canandaigua's division title in 1989. Gaining some attention as Danny Johnon's relief driver for one race in 1990, Tomkins was next invited to race full time by car owner Darrell Simmons, and scored his first Modified victory in 1992. Tomkins claimed the track championship at Brewerton Speedway NY in 2004, and was the Rolling Wheels Raceway NY Modified champion in 2004 and 2005. [2] He was victorious at 14 different tracks including Can-Am Speedway, Utica-Rome Speedway and Weedsport Speedway in New York; Cornwall Motor Speedway ON; Hagerstown Speedway MD; and Lismore Speedway in New South Wales, Australia. Gary Tomkins was inducted into the Northeast Dirt Modified Hall of Fame in 2024. [1] [6]

Joe Plazek is a Canadian stock car racing driver. He was a three time New York State Fair Champion, and also won Rookie of the Year honors while competing in the Canadian premier touring stock car series.

Glenn Reiners was a pioneering American dirt modified racing driver. In 1958 he won 13 of the 20 feature races held at Dundee Speedway NY.

Robert "Bobby" Cain was a pioneering American stock car and sprint car racing driver. Raised in the Pennsylvania Dutch Country he and his cars were known to racing fans as the "Quaker Shaker".

David "Dave" Lape was an American dirt modified racing driver, fabricator, and promoter. His cars always carried the number 22 adorned with 13-point flames as a tribute to his childhood mentor, car owner Bob Whitbeck and his driver Pete Corey.

D. James "Jim" Shampine was one of the most successful drivers in Supermodified competition and an equally skilled racer in asphalt and dirt-track Modified stock cars. Charles "Chuck" Akulis is a retired American Dirt Modified racing driver. Akulis had a 9-year winning streak at the Five Mile Point Speedway in Kirkwood, NY (1977–1985), and captured 14 track championships at the venue during his career.

E. David "Dave" Kneisel was an American dirt modified race car driver. He was also a noted builder of race cars, founding Kneisel's Speed and Sport shop in Clarks Summit PA, which continued to field cars for multiple drivers after Kneisel's death.

John "Johnny" McArdell was an American Modified racing driver. He was one of few drivers to make the successful transition from flatheads to V8 powered engines.

Harold "Harry" Peek was an American stock car driver. Track announcers coined his driving style as the "Patented Peek Charge", as he would wait until the end of the race to make his move to victory.

Ken "Kenny" Meahl is a retired American Modified racing driver. He was the driver for teen car owner Jerry Cook for several years before the NASCAR Hall of Fame driver came of age.

Davey Moore is a retired Canadian Dirt Modified racing driver from St. Anns, Ontario. Nicknamed "The Canadian Blast", his victories included 12 features in a row in 1979.
