Brewerton Speedway is a 1/3rd mile D-shaped dirt oval raceway in Brewerton, New York. It is considered one of the oldest jewels of the robust Central New York racing scene.

History

The Brewerton Speedway was built as a ¼ mile clay racetrack in 1949 by Vere Bradbury and Don Georgia, who sold it to Al Richardson. [1] The first event was a dirt track midget car race. [2] The track was paved in 1956, [3] and the current 1/3 mile dirt oval opened in 1973. [4]

Richardson remained owner until 1965, after which the racetrack went through a series of owners and promoters, as well as several years of inactivity. In 1994, Harvey, Joan, and David Fink purchased the track. [5] Since 2009, the track, along with the Fulton Speedway, has been owned by John and Laura Wight. [6] The Wights previously owned the Can-Am Speedway.

Events

The Brewerton Speedway annually hosts the DIRTcar 358 Modified Series Hurricane 100 on the Thursday of Super Dirt Week. [7]

On the last full weekend of September, the facility also hosts the Apple Festival, attracting 25,000 people annually. [8] The Lioness Club of Central Square donates all proceeds from this event to communities on the north shore of Oneida Lake, southern Oswego, and northern Onondaga counties. [9]

The track was built in 1857 for horse racing at the Orange County Fair and staged its first automobile race on August 16, 1919. The fair began as an agricultural exhibit in 1843 and was permanently located in the Wallkill–Middletown area in 1857. The speedway is located at 239 Wisner Avenue in Middletown on land which was known as The Ogden Tract in the mid-1850s. It was originally a half-mile horse racing track known as the Harry Clay Oval, named after a race horse that was famous at that time. Over the years, the track was widened and lengthened to a true 5/8-mile race track.

Central New York Raceway Park is a motorsports complex currently under construction in Central Square, New York, United States. The 2.2 mile road course was designed by Peter Argetsinger and will be the only natural terrain road course in North America featuring a permanent lighting system. Super Dirt Week is a modified racing event held annually on Columbus Day weekend in Central New York state.

The 2019 Super DIRTcar Series is the 46th season of Big Block Modified racing sanctioned by DIRTcar Northeast & World Racing Group. The season will begin with the DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park on February 12 while the first points scoring race of the season will be the Highbank Holdup at Can-Am Speedway on April 13 The season will end with the Can-Am World of Outlaws World Finals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte on November 9. Matt Sheppard enters the 2019 season as the defending series champion.

Weedsport Speedway, formerly known as Cayuga County Fair Speedway, is a 3/8 mile oval dirt racetrack located on the Cayuga County Fairgrounds in Weedsport, New York.

Billy Decker is an American dirt modified and late model racing driver. He has captured 18 track titles at six different tracks, and notched wins at 35 different tracks in nine states and two Canadian provinces.

Pat Ward is an American Dirt Modified racing driver, currently credited with over 145 career wins at 17 tracks in New York, Pennsylvania, and Florida.

Gary Reddick was a driver of modified stock cars. Equally adept on both dirt and asphalt surfaces, he captured 7 track titles and nearly 200 feature wins in the northeastern United States and the southeastern Canada.
