Gas Transmission Company Limited is a government owned company responsible for transmission of natural gas all over Bangladesh. It is a government owned company for gas transmission and under direct supervision of Bangladesh Oil, Gas & Mineral Corporation (Petrobangla). [1] [2] [3]

History

Gas Transmission Company Limited was established on 14 December 1993 under the Companies Act of 1993, as a public limited company with an authorized capital of Tk.100 billion of 100,00,000.00 shares of Tk.1000 each. The company was formed with the objective of establishing a balanced and reliable national gas transmission network with effective and unified control to ensure transportation of required gas for meeting the increasing gas demand in the country. Its formation was recommended by Coopers and Lybrand Associates (today known as PricewaterhouseCoopers) who was hired by the Department for International Development. GTCL commenced its formal operation through convening the first meeting of the board of Directors on 23 January 1994 and subsequently started its commercial business from March 1994. [4] [5]

Dhaka Power Distribution Company Limited (DPDC) is a Public Limited Company under the Power Division of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Government of Bangladesh, that manages the distribution of electricity to the customers of the Dhaka City Corporation area. The company, created as a part of the Power Sector Reform Programme, was registered on 25 October 2005 under the Companies Act, 1994. The government owns 100% share of the company. DPDC started commercial operation on 1 July 2008 taking over from Dhaka Electricity Supply Authority (DESA). All the assets and liabilities of DESA were transferred to DPDC through an agreement signed in September 2008.

Coal Power Generation Company Bangladesh Limited

Coal Power Generation Company Bangladesh Limited is a Bangladesh government owned energy company. The main objective of the Company is to generate electricity based mainly but not solely on Coal as fuel. In this regard, the Company will undertake any scheme for construction of Power Plant under the Private Sector Power Generation Policy of Bangladesh, Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Policy or any other Policy Framework of the Government. The prime initiative of the Company is to construct a 2X600 MW Coal Fired Power Plant at Matarbari and Dhalghata Union in Maheshkhali Upazilla of Cox’s Bazar District. This project comprises of construction of jetty and coal handling facilities for coal import, coal storage, power plant construction, township development, rural electrification and construction of transmission facilities and road communication. The purpose of the company is to increase electricity generated from burning coal. Eco-friendly Ultra Super Critical Technology based first 2x600MW Matarbari project is scheduled to be in operation in January 2024. Full swing operation of the company shall yield 5000 MW of power to the National Grid by 2030. Mr. Md. Abdul Mottalib is the Managing Director of the company.

Habiganj Gas Field is a natural gas field located in Habiganj district of Bangladesh. It is controlled by Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited.

Titas Gas Field

Titas Gas Field is a natural gas field located in Brahmanbaria, Bangladesh. It is the largest gas field in Bangladesh. From where, around 300 million cubic feet of gas is being extracted daily. It is a subsidiary of Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited (BGFCL). The geo-structure of the gas field area is dome-shaped, with an area of about 64 square kilometers.
