Early career and debut

Ary made his debut as a cinematographer with the 2012 independent film "Mastram". The film, which follows the life of a struggling writer, showcased Ary’s ability to create a unique visual narrative. Utilizing the Arri Alexa camera, he achieved a distinctive aesthetic marked by natural lighting and dynamic compositions, effectively reflecting the protagonist's turbulent inner world. The film received acclaim for its fresh visual approach and Ary's deft handling of light and color.[ citation needed ]

Breakthrough and notable works

Following his debut, Ary established himself in both Hindi and Tamil cinema. His breakthrough came with the 2014 Tamil film Jigarthanda , directed by Karthik Subbaraj. This film, a dark comedy with a meta-narrative on filmmaking, stood out for its cinematography. Ary’s use of shadows, camera angles, and movement brought a distinct flair to the film, contributing to its critical and commercial success. Ary further demonstrated his range with the Hindi films Nil Battey Sannata (2016) and Bareilly Ki Barfi (2017). In 2021, Ary worked on Bunty Aur Babli 2 , where his expertise in cinematography helped to update the franchise with a fresh visual style. In 2024, Ary contributed additional cinematography to Mission: Chapter 1 , a Tamil film that underscored his adaptability and technical expertise. His work on this film combined action-packed sequences with emotive close-ups, displaying his capability to handle a range of cinematic styles.

Ary is set to be the cinematographer for the upcoming Tamil romantic drama Kadhalikka Neramillai , directed by Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi.[ citation needed ] Known for her unique storytelling style, Kiruthiga brings a fresh perspective to this contemporary love story, blending humor, emotion, and vibrant characters.
