The Gawad sa Kaunlaran [2] (English: Award in Development) is awarded by the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Area Command, and Major Service Commanders to Philippine citizens. It is the second highest distinction presented by the Armed Forces of the Philippines to civilians and government officials. [3]

Criteria

It is awarded for "...conspicuously meritorious and valuable achievement in the pursuit of socio-economic and other non-combat activities, or for conspicuously exceptional~ service which contributed immensely in accomplishing the peaceful objectives of the AFP, or in improving the quality of life of the people within the military establishment." [1]

The medal is awarded without regard to position or length of service for which the recipient is recognized. Completion of tasks or enterprises are not to be considered, but the conspicuous nature of the achievement is deemed to be itself noteworthy, and deserving of recognition. [1]

Appearance

The medal is of circular design with 11 silver rays, between the arms of the rays is dark blue. In the center of the rays is a gold star. Superimposed diagonally on the star is a single branch of laurel leaves in light—green. [1]

The medal is suspended from a blue ribbon with a yellow-edged central green stripe. [4]

The Philippine Legion of Honor was established by President Manuel Roxas, through Philippine Army Circular No. 60 dated July 3, 1947. This Silver Wing Medal is a military decoration awarded by Armed Forces of the Philippines to Philippine and allied military personnel. The Silver Wing Medal is awarded in only one class, and may be awarded by the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines; the Commanding General, PAR Area Command; and Major Service Commanders. The Gold Cross Medal (GCM) is a decoration of the Armed Forces of the Philippines which recognizes gallantry in action. It is the third highest military award of the Philippines for heroism. It is awarded by the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, or other senior commanders, to members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines for gallantry in action not warranting the award of the Distinguished Conduct Star.

The Distinguished Conduct Star is the second highest military award of the Philippines, preceded in precedence only by the Medal of Valor. The award was established in 1939, by President Manuel L. The Combat Commander's Kagitingan (K) Badge is awarded by the Commanding General, PA to PA officers and enlisted personnel who have commanded combat and combat support units for at least one cumulative year; all other PA military personnel who have rendered at least one cumulative year of combat duty regardless of their assignment, including those engaged in combat service support operations. <span class="mw-page-title-main">Gregorio Catapang Jr.</span> Philippine Armed Forces Chief of Staff

Gregorio Pio Punzalan Catapang Jr., CCLH is a Career Executive Service Eligible Officer, Corrections Officer, and retired Filipino general who served as the 45th Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. He was the Vice Chief of Staff prior to his appointment as head of the armed forces. He was also the former head of the AFP Northern Luzon Command and 7th Infantry Division. He is part of the Philippine Military Academy Dimalupig Class of 1981. He was part of the Reform the Armed Forces Movement. On October 21, 2022, upon the suspension of BUCOR Director General Usec. Gerald Bantag, Catapang was appointed by President Bongbong Marcos as the Officer in Charge, and eventually as the Full-Time Undersecretary/Director General of the Bureau of Corrections.
