Fr. Dr. Geevarghese Chediath Malpan (born 1945) is a priest of the Major Archdioicese of Trivandrum of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church. [1]

Early life

Chediath was born at Athirumkal, Pathanamthitta, Kerala on 29 May 1945. His parents are C. G. Daniel (+ 2004) and Saramma. He had his Seminary Studies at St. Aloysius Seminary, Trivandrum and St. Thomas Apostolic Seminary, Vadavathoor, Kottayam. He was ordained a priest on 20 December 1969.

Priestly life

He was appointed the Secretary to Archbishop Benedict Mar Gregorios. He was the Vice Rector (1970-1973) and later Rector (1993-1996) of St. Aloysius Seminary, Trivandrum. [2] He had his Doctoral Studies at Augustinianum, Rome. He wrote his Doctoral Dissertation on the Christology of Mar Babai the Great (+ 628).

Academic life

He taught at the St. Thomas Apostolic Seminary, Vadavathoor, Kottayam (1979-1993) and is a Permanent Professor of the Pontifical Oriental Institute, Kottayam. He is a Resident Professor at St. Mary’s Malankara Major Seminary, Nalanchira, Trivandrum since 1996. [3] He taught also at the St. Ephrem Ecumenical Research Institute (SEERI), Kottayam [4] and Missionary Orientation Centre (MOC), Kottayam. He was a member of the Pro-Oriente Syriac Commission and is a member of the Forum Syriacum of the Pro-Oriente Foundation. He was one of the Malankara catholic representatives of the Catholic- Malankara Orthodox and Catholic- Syrian Orthodox International Theological Dialogues. He is a consultor of the Synodal Commission for Theology and Publication of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church. [5]

Death

He was called to eternal life on 21 February 2021. His funeral service was conducted on 25 February 2021.

Author

He has authored 106 books in Malayalam and English on Patrology, Ecumenism and Church History. [6] [7] [8] The Christology of Mar Babai the Great (1982) is his masterpiece. [9] He has also served as the section editor of the Theological Quarterly, Christian Orient. He was the Chancellor of the newly emerged malankara catholic diocese of Pathanamthitta

Geevarghese Ivanios was the first metropolitan archbishop of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church and Major Archdiocese of Trivandrum. He was the founder of Bethany Ashram order of monks and Bethany madom order of nuns. He was the first M.A. degree holder in the Malankara Church. He also served as the principal of the Kottayam M.D Seminary High School and as a professor at Serampore College. He has been declared Servant of God by Cardinal Baselios Cleemis.

St. Mary's Malankara Syrian Catholic Major Seminary is a centre of priestly training for the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church.

Dr. Abraham Mar Julios is the Metropolitan Bishop of the Eparchy of Muvattupuzha of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church. Abraham was born to late Varghese Kakkanattil in Padinjaremannil branch of Paramel family, Cherukole-Kozhenchery and Annamma Varghese in the village of Kalloopara, Thiruvalla. Having completed his school education, he joined the Infant Mary Minor Seminary, Thiruvalla in 1961. He completed his philosophical studies in St. Thomas Apostolic Seminary at Vadavathoor, Kottayam. He had his theological studies in Propaganda College, Rome. He was ordained priest by Metropolitan Zacharias Mar Athanasios. After his ordination, he served as parish priest of Mycavu and Ounjil in Kozhikkodu. From 1974 to 1979 Abraham Kakkanattu was the Procurator and the Director of the Social Service Society of the Eparchy of Tiruvalla. Meanwhile, he served as the vicar of the parishes of Thalavadi North and South. In 1978 he started Matha Senior Secondary School in Thumboly, Alleppey district.

Yoohanon Chrysostom Kalloor was the second bishop of the Eparchy of Marthandom (1998–2010) and first bishop of the Eparchy of Pathanamthitta (2010–2019) of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church. He retired from Pathanamthitta on 7 June 2019 and was succeeded by Samuel Irenios Kattukallil. He is currently Bishop Emeritus.

After completing his primary schooling, he did his tertiary studies at the St. Berchmans College in Changanacherry. He joined Parel St. Thomas Seminary in the year 1951 and did priestly studies at the Propaganda Fide College in Rome. He received a doctorate in theology and a master's degree in philosophy from the Urban University in Rome and masters degrees in Oriental sciences and Oriental canon law from the Pontifical Oriental Institute in Rome. He is a church historian and a scholar. He is a notable contributor to the Catholic Church.

He is currently bishop of the Eparchy of Pathanamthitta of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church. He succeeded Yoohanon Chrysostom Kalloor on 7 June 2019 and became the second bishop of the eparchy, which was erected in 2010.
