Eugene Leo Derfler (born May 24,1924) is an American politician who was a member of the Oregon House of Representatives and Oregon State Senate. [1] [2] He is an alumnus of Western Washington College of Education and the Pensacola Naval Aviator School. He was a real estate broker at Coldwell Banker Mountain West Real Estate. [3] Derfler was honored as a guest in the Oregon Senate in February 2024,at the age of 99. [4] He turned 100 on May 24,2024. [5]
Charles Linza McNary was an American Republican politician from Oregon. He served in the U.S. Senate from 1917 to 1944 and was Senate Minority Leader from 1933 to 1944. In the Senate,McNary helped to pass legislation that led to the construction of Bonneville Dam on the Columbia River,and worked on agricultural and forestry issues. He also supported many of the New Deal programs at the beginning of the Great Depression. Until Mark Hatfield surpassed his mark in 1993,he was Oregon's longest-serving senator.
La Fayette Grover was a Democratic politician and lawyer from the U.S. state of Oregon. He was the fourth Governor of Oregon,represented Oregon in the United States House of Representatives,and served one term in the United States Senate.
The 2008 United States Senate election in Oregon was held on November 4,2008. Incumbent Republican U.S. Senator Gordon H. Smith sought reelection to a third term. Smith was the only Republican Senator from the West Coast and the only Republican holding statewide office in Oregon. He was opposed by Democrat Jeff Merkley,the Speaker of the Oregon House of Representatives,and David Brownlow of the Constitution Party of Oregon. Merkley won by a narrow margin,with Smith not conceding until two days after the election. Merkley became the first Democrat to win this seat since 1960,and since Smith was the only Republican holding statewide office in Oregon at the time,this was the first time since 1860 that no Republicans won or held statewide office in Oregon. Merkley's inauguration marked the first time since 1967 that Democrats held both of Oregon's United States Senate seats.

Jay Hollister Upton was an American politician and attorney from the state of Oregon. He was a conservative Republican who served two years in the Oregon House of Representatives;and later,fourteen years in the Oregon State Senate. In the senate,Upton represented a large rural district in eastern Oregon. He served as President of the Oregon Senate during the 1923 legislative session. Upton ran for Governor of Oregon and for the United States Congress from Oregon's 2nd congressional district,but lost both of those elections.
James Franklin Short (1902-1986) was an American businessman,rancher,and politician from the state of Oregon. He was a Republican who served one two-year term in the Oregon House of Representatives,where he represented a large rural district in central and southcentral Oregon. He also served two separate periods as Oregon's director of agriculture. He was originally appointed to the position by Governor Paul L. Patterson. He then continued his service under Elmo Smith followed by a brief time under Robert D. Holmes. Later,he was re-appointed to the position by Governor Mark Hatfield. In between his periods of service in the Oregon Department of Agriculture,Short was state chairman of Oregon's Republican Party.

He was President of the Oregon State Senate during the 1887 legislative session.
