Gentle Rain is a trio album led by pianist John Hicks, recorded in 1994.
The album was recorded at Acoustic Recording, Brooklyn, New York, on May 10 and 11, 1994. [1] The musicians were pianist John Hicks, bassist Walter Booker, and drummer Louis Hayes. [2] "Missing You" is played at a slow tempo; "Countdown" is up-tempo. [3]
Walter Booker was an American jazz musician. A native of Prairie View, Texas, Booker was a reliable bass player and an underrated stylist. His playing was marked by voice-like inflections, glissandos and tremolo techniques.
Louis Hayes is an American jazz drummer.

Gentle Rain was released by Sound Hills. [1] The reviewer for Cadence Magazine reported that "the playing shows few surprises, but Hicks is clearly a master of his instrument, a commanding presence, in total control." [3]
John Josephus Hicks, Jr. was an American jazz pianist, composer, and arranger. He was leader for more than 30 recordings and played as a sideman on more than 300.
Alfred V. De Lory was an American record producer, arranger, conductor and session musician. He was the producer and arranger of a series of worldwide hits by Glen Campbell in the 1960s, including John Hartford's "Gentle on My Mind", Jimmy Webb's "By the Time I Get to Phoenix", "Wichita Lineman" and "Galveston". He was also a member of the 1960s Los Angeles session musicians known as The Wrecking Crew, and inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum in 2007.
