Gentofte Badminton Klub (Gentofte Badminton Klub), also known as GBK is a badminton club in Gentofte, Gentofte Municipality, Copenhagen, Denmark. It is based in Gentofte Sportsby. The club has won more than 100 titles. It experienced its most successful period in the late 1970s and 1980 when it won Europe Cup seven times. Former players include some of Denmark's most successful badminton players, including, Morten Frost, Lene Køppen, Poul-Erik Høyer, Peter Gade and Camilla Martin.

History

Gentofte Badminton Klub (Gentofte Badminton or GBK) was founded on 10 February 1931. The club initially played in rented premises on Maltegårdsvej in Charlottenlund until inaugurating its current badminton hall in 1936.

Location

The club is based in GBK Hallen in Gentofte Sportsby. The venue contains 10 badminton courts. [1]

Lene Køppen is a former badminton player from Denmark who won numerous Danish national and major international championships from the early 1970s through the early 1980s. Noted for her speed and athleticism, she and Camilla Martin are the only Danish women to win both the World (1977) and All-England singles titles. In the first IBF World Championships in 1977 she captured mixed doubles as well as women's singles to become the first of only seven players, through 2010, to win two events in the same edition of this tournament. Notably, her badminton success came as she was studying and then practising dentistry. She was elected to the World Badminton Hall of Fame in 1998. She is the mother of badminton player Marie Røpke.

Erland Kops was a badminton player from Denmark who won numerous major international singles and doubles titles from the late 1950s to the early 1970s.

Sport in Denmark is diverse. The national sport is running, but club sport is football with the most notable results being qualifying for the European Championships six times in a row (1984–2004) and winning the Championship in 1992. Other significant achievements include winning the Confederations Cup in 1995 and reaching the quarter final of the 1998 World Cup. Steen Skovgaard is a retired male badminton player from Denmark who specialized in the doubles events and won national and international titles in both men's doubles and mixed doubles from the mid-1970s through the early 1980s. He played for the Gentofte BK.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">SISU BK</span> Basketball team in Gentofte, Denmark

SISU Basketball Klub is a Danish basketball club from Gentofte, Copenhagen founded in 1954. It takes its name from the Finnish term Sisu. It is the oldest basketball club in Denmark. Both the men's and women's teams still plays in the league's premier championships. The men's team most recent success was reaching the 2000–01 championship's final rounds, where it lost against Forest Hill, while the women's team has resurfaced as a leading force in recent years, winning two doubles in 2011 and 2012 and playing the FIBA Eurocup.

The Cavling Prize is a prestigious Danish journalist award. It is awarded annually in January to "a journalist or a group of journalists who have shown initiative and talent in the past year." It is generally considered the most prestigious prize for Journalism in Denmark.
