Steen Skovgaard is a retired male badminton player from Denmark who specialized in the doubles events and won national and international titles in both men's doubles and mixed doubles from the mid-1970s through the early 1980s.

Career

The tall, hard-hitting Skovgaard won the gold medal at the 1977 IBF World Championships in mixed doubles with Lene Køppen, defeating Derek Talbot and Gillian Gilks by 15-12, 18-17 in the final. They also won the bronze medal at the 1980 IBF World Championships.

At the European Badminton Championships they won two silver medals, in 1976 and 1978. In 1980 Skovgaard won a bronze medal in men's doubles with Flemming Delfs, and in 1982 another bronze medal in mixed doubles with his wife, Anne Skovgaard.

Later life

After ending his active career, Sjovgaard became a coach in Gentofte BK. He has also been used as a badminton commentator by TV2 Sporten.

He has since 1981 worked for companies such as IBM Denmark, Errpege IBS, Kraks Forklag and Mercuri Urval. In 2004, he became a co-owner of People Capital Partner. In 2010, he became partner in the recruitment company Hansen Toft A/S. [1]

The duo won the 2004 and 2006 All England Open, won gold at the European Championships, and was at the time a half years as No.1 in the world.

Lene Køppen is a former badminton player from Denmark who won numerous Danish national and major international championships from the early 1970s through the early 1980s. Noted for her speed and athleticism, she and Camilla Martin are the only Danish women to win both the World (1977) and All-England singles titles. In the first IBF World Championships in 1977 she captured mixed doubles as well as women's singles to become the first of only seven players, through 2010, to win two events in the same edition of this tournament. Notably, her badminton success came as she was studying and then practising dentistry. She was elected to the World Badminton Hall of Fame in 1998. She is the mother of badminton player Marie Røpke.

Derek Talbot is a former English badminton player. One of Britain's most successful "all-rounders," he won eleven English National Championships four singles, three doubles, and four mixed doubles. Aryono Miranat is a retired badminton player from Indonesia who specialized in mixed doubles. After his retirement he became a badminton trainer at PB Djarum in Kudus. As of 29 December 2007, he is a coach in the men's doubles category for the Indonesian badminton association (PBSI). He is currently the Indonesia national team men's doubles assistant coach.

Jesper Alsing Larsen is a badminton player from Denmark who affiliated with Hvidovre BK. He won the men's doubles gold medal along with partner Jens Eriksen at the 2000 European Championships. Larsen and Eriksen competed at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia, and finished in the quarter-finals stage.

BWF World Championships Badminton tournament

The BWF World Championships is a badminton tournament sanctioned by Badminton World Federation (BWF). The tournament offers the most ranking points, together with Summer Olympics badminton tournaments. The winners will be crowned as the "World Champions" and awarded gold medals. However, it does not offer any prize money.
