The 7th European Badminton Championships were held in Groningen (Netherlands), between 17 and 20 April 1980, and hosted by the European Badminton Union and the Nederlandse Badminton Bond.

She won both the 1980 IBF World Championships and the 1980 European Championships in women's doubles with Jane Webster. Three years later, she won the 1983 IBF World Championships title in mixed doubles with Thomas Kihlström. Generally regarded as one of the greatest female mixed doubles players in the game's history, in 1999 she was inducted into the World Badminton Hall of Fame.

Michael 'Mike' Graham Tredgett is a former English badminton player who specialized in doubles and played at the world level for more than a decade, winning numerous international men's doubles and mixed doubles titles.

Ray Stevens is a former English badminton player and multiple National champion.

Steen Skovgaard is a retired male badminton player from Denmark who specialized in the doubles events and won national and international titles in both men's doubles and mixed doubles from the mid-1970s through the early 1980s. He played for the Gentofte BK.

The BWF World Championships, formerly known as IBF World Championships, and also known as the World Badminton Championships, is a badminton tournament sanctioned by Badminton World Federation (BWF). The tournament is one of the most prestigious in badminton, offering the most ranking points, together with the Summer Olympics badminton tournaments which was introduced in 1992. The winners of this tournament are also crowned as "World Champions" of the sport, and are awarded a gold medal.
