Geoffrey Marc Carr OAM (born 1952) is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1970s and administrated in the 1990s and 2000s. He was the CEO of the Australian Rugby League [2] as well as the New South Wales Rugby League.

Playing career

Originally from Grafton, New South Wales, Carr played first grade in the NSWRL premiership with the St. George Dragons for five seasons between 1970 and 1975. [3] and played in the 1971 Grand Final under mastercoach Jack Gibson.

Administrative career

Carr was appointed secretary of the St. George club in 1989. [4] He later became the club's chief executive, and in 1995 after exploring the possibility of a merger with the Roosters in an attempt to match the turnover of the Brisbane Broncos, was sacked by his board. [5] He then joined the ARL and was team manager for Australia in their successful1995 World Cup campaign. [6] Carr later also worked for the National Rugby League. Carr became CEO of the ARL in 2000 [7] and was later appointed New South Wales Rugby League chief executive. [8]

He announced his retirement from full-time administration in 2013. [9]

Carr was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in the 2020 Australia Day Honours for "service to rugby league." [10]

The Sydney Roosters is an Australian professional rugby league football club based in the Eastern Suburbs (Sydney). The club competes in the National Rugby League (NRL) competition and is one of the oldest and most successful. In 1980, he was instrumental in the establishment of the State of Origin series between teams representing New South Wales and Queensland.

Rugby league in Australia has been one of Australia’s most popular sports since it started being played there in 1908. It is the dominant winter football code in the states of New South Wales and Queensland. 1995 ARL season

The 1995 ARL premiership was the 88th season of professional rugby league football in Australia, and the first to be run by the Australian Rugby League following the hand-over of the Premiership's administration by the New South Wales Rugby League. For the first time since the 1988 NSWRL season, the Premiership expanded again, and for the first time ever outside the borders of New South Wales and Queensland, with the addition of four new clubs from North Queensland, Western Australia, South Queensland and Auckland. This saw a total of twenty teams, the largest number in the League's history, compete during the regular season for the J J Giltinan Shield, which was followed by a series of play-off finals between the top eight teams that culminated in a grand final for the Winfield Cup between the newly re-branded Sydney Bulldogs and the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles.

The 1993 NSWRL season was the eighty-sixth season of professional rugby league football in Australia. The New South Wales Rugby League's sixteen teams competed for the J. J. Giltinan Shield during the season, which culminated in a replay of the previous year's grand final for the Winfield Cup trophy between the Brisbane Broncos and St. George Dragons. As Sydney celebrated winning the 2000 Olympic Games, Brisbane spoiled the party by retaining the NSWRL premiership.

The Harvey Norman Women's Premiership is a rugby league competition for clubs in New South Wales. It is the only state wide open age competition for women in New South Wales and is run by New South Wales Rugby League.
