Geoff Diego Litherland (born 1979 in Tehuacan, Mexico), the son of the geologist Martin Litherland, is a painter working internationally, based in the UK.

Life and career

Geoff Diego Litherland is a Mexican-born artist based in London. Having had a colourful upbringing in Bolivia and Ecuador he moved to England and graduated from Falmouth College of Arts in 2002. Litherland has exhibited widely, both nationally and internationally and recognition to date has included being selected for the 25th John Moores Painting Prize [1] [2] [3] at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool which was judged by Sacha Craddock, Jake and Dinos Chapman, Paul Morrison and Graham Crowley [4] and in 2008 he won the Nottingham Castle Open.

In 2011 Litherland was selected by Matthew Collings to be included in the exhibition Crash at the Charlie Dutton Gallery. He also had a solo show at Art Work Space within the Hempel Hotel London and was selected by Patricia Bickers, Pippa Hale and Robert Leckie for inclusion in the Salon Art Prize, at the Matt Roberts Arts Project Space on Vyner Street in London.

In 2010 Litherland jointly curated the exhibition Closely Held Secrets, [5] which featured Turner Prize winner Grayson Perry. The exhibition was an artistic collaboration between Nottingham Trent University’s Bonington Gallery, nine visual artists and a skilled digital embroidery technician who has translated and transformed a series of original artworks into a collection of digitally embroidered artefacts.

Litherland graduated with an MFA at Goldsmiths College of Art in 2012 where he was awarded The Warden's Purchase Prize. In 2012 his painting, All Animals Lead us to Light was picked for the Oriel Davis Open, in Newtown, Wales.

In 2013, Litherland was picked by Antlers Gallery, Bristol, along with five other artists to exhibit his work in their exhibition Spatial.

In 2014, Antlers Gallery approached Litherland again to exhibit at their project Exploration. This exhibition was shown at Purifier House by Bristol's Harbourside.

Richard Parkes Bonington Romantic landscape painter from England, 1802-1828

Richard Parkes Bonington was an English Romantic landscape painter, who moved to France at the age of 14 and can also be considered as a French artist, and an intermediary bringing aspects of English style to France. Becoming, after his early death, one of the most influential British artists of his time, the facility of his style was inspired by the old masters, yet was entirely modern in its application. His landscapes were mostly of coastal scenes, with a low horizon and large sky, showing a brilliant handling of light and atmosphere. He also painted small historical cabinet paintings in a freely-handled version of the troubadour style.

Lothar Hempel is a German artist based in Berlin. He attended Kunstakademie Düsseldorf from 1987 to 1992.

Eileen Cooper is a British artist, known primarily as a painter and printmaker.

Ivon Hitchens was an English painter who started exhibiting during the 1920s. He became part of the 'London Group' of artists and exhibited with them during the 1930s. His house was bombed in 1940 during World War II, at which point he moved to a caravan on a patch of woodland near Petworth in West Sussex. He worked there for the next forty years, gradually augmenting his caravan with a series of buildings. He is particularly well known for panoramic landscape paintings created from blocks of colour. There is a huge mural by him in the main hall of Cecil Sharp House. His work was exhibited in the British Pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 1956.

Iwona Blazwick

Iwona Maria Blazwick OBE is a British art critic and lecturer, and has been Director of the Whitechapel Art Gallery in London since 2001. She discovered Damien Hirst and staged his first solo show at a public London art gallery, Institute of Contemporary Arts in 1992. She supports the careers of young artists.

David Haines is an English artist who lives and works in Amsterdam. He is known for his videos and large scale pencil drawings on paper.

Sacha Craddock

Sacha Craddock is an independent art critic, writer & curator based in London. Craddock is co-founder of Artschool Palestine, co-founder or the Contemporary Art Award and council member of the Abbey Awards in Painting at the British School at Rome, Trustee of the Shelagh Cluett Trust, and President of the International Association of Art Critics AICA UK. She was Chair of the Board of New Contemporaries and selection process from 1996 until December 2021.

Antlers Gallery is a commercial gallery based in Bristol England. Created in 2010 by gallery Director Jack Gibbon, Antlers Gallery produces temporary exhibitions across varying locations, with their only permanent base being online. Dubbed the 'nomadic' gallery, they use a similar business model to pop – up galleries but tie these together under the gallery brand. Antlers also have an active publishing wing working with artists producing limited edition prints and multiples.

Anthony WhishawRA is an English artist and member of the Royal Academy. Whishaw claims no association with any particular art movement, stating instead that "each painting and work on paper makes its own separate demands". He is also a member of The London Group.

Nicholas Middleton is an English artist born in London, England in 1975. He studied at the London Guildhall University 1993. In 1994, at the Winchester School of Art where he was awarded a BA Honours Fine Art in 1997. In 2006 he was the Visitors' Choice prizewinner at John Moores Painting Prize 24 and in 2010 Middleton was a Prizewinner and the Visitors' Choice Award prizewinner at John Moores Painting Prize 2010. His paintings are "primarily influenced by the experience of the urban environment as a visual arena where unexpected juxtapositions occur". He is a member of Contemporary British Painting.

Judith Tucker Artist

Judith Tucker was born in Bangor, Wales in 1960. She completed a BA in Fine Arts at the Ruskin School of Art, St Anne's College, Oxford, (1978–81) an MA in Fine Arts (1997–98) and a PhD in Fine Arts at the University of Leeds (1999–2002). Tucker is co-convenor of LAND2, a research network of artists associated with higher education who are concerned with radical approaches to landscape with a particular focus on memory, place and identity. She exhibits regularly in the UK and Europe. Between 2003 and 2006, Tucker was an Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) Research Fellow in the Creative and Performing Arts.

Julian Brown is a British artist. He lives and works in London. He studied at Liverpool John Moores University, England (1993–96) and Royal Academy Schools, London (1998–2001). His work is heavily influenced by childhood visions and the folk-art from his Polish mother. He was long-listed for the John Moores Painting Prize in 2016 and in 2012 was shortlisted for the Marmite Prize in Painting IV (2012–13). Brown has exhibited his work nationally and internationally and is a member of Contemporary British Painting.

Vanessa Jackson is a British painter, notable for her wall installation paintings. She was elected to the Royal Academy of Arts in 2015.

Mandy Payne British painter

Mandy Payne is a member of the Contemporary British Painting group and is an artist with a primary interest in portraying the regeneration of inner city environments and the transitory nature of urban communities. Her themes include the contrasts between twentieth century inner-city social housing and modern gentrification.
