John Njoroge Michuki was a Kenyan politician and businessman. He was born at Muguru, village, Iyego Location, Kangema Division in Murang’a District. He was educated in Kenya and abroad. Michuki emerged as one of the prominent and long-serving civil servants and politicians as well as a businessman in Kenya. Michuki served Kenya in various capacities, including Permanent Secretary in the Finance Ministry, Chairman of the Kenya Commercial Bank, Member of Parliament and Cabinet Minister. He was serving his 4th five-year term as a Member of Parliament for Kangema Constituency. Michuki had a reputation as a "ruthless" and efficient manager, and was widely acknowledged as among the best performing ministers in President Kibaki's Government. He was serving as the Minister for Environment and National Resources at the time of his death.
Ethan Avram Berkowitz is an American attorney, businessman, and politician from Alaska. From 1997 to 2007 he was the Alaska State Representative for District 26, serving as the Democratic Party Minority Leader from 1999 to 2007. He was the Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor in 2006, for Alaska's at-large congressional district in 2008, and for governor in 2010. He was elected mayor of Anchorage in 2015, and reelected in 2018. Berkowitz resigned as mayor of Anchorage in October 2020 after admitting to being in a "consensual, inappropriate messaging relationship" with a reporter.
Kamukunji Constituency is an electoral constituency in Kenya. It is one of seventeen constituencies of Nairobi County. It consists of central to eastern areas of Nairobi. Kamukunji constituency had common boundaries with Pumwani Division of Nairobi. The entire constituency is located within Nairobi City County area. The constituency has an area of 8.80 km2 (3.4 sq mi). The constituency forms part of what was known as Nairobi Central Constituency at the 1963 elections. Kamukunji Constituency was conceived prior to the 1969 elections. The current constituency boundaries were revised prior to the 2013 elections. It borders Starehe Constituency to the west, Makadara to the south, Embakasi West Constituency to the east, and Mathare Constituency to the north.

The 10th Parliament of Kenya saw the National Assembly opened on 15 January 2008. This following the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) of Raila Odinga winning a majority in the 2007 parliamentary elections. Raila was a candidate in the presidential elections, which resulted in a controversial victory for Mwai Kibaki of the Party of National Unity. The opening of the parliament was fraught with jeers, cheers and brawls between the opposing parties; Mwai Kibaki was greeted by the ODM members with silence and boos, while Raila was greeted by PNU members with accusations of genocide.

The City Council Cemetery Land Scandal is a scandal that in March 2010, resulted in the Kenyan Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi coming under investigation by the Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission over a Sh283 million cemetery land fraud at the Nairobi City Council. Commission officials said that they wanted to establish whether the minister was party to the fraud in which the City Council of Nairobi bought land valued at Sh24 million for nearly Sh300 million. Mudavadi however protested his innocence and said that the commission was being unfair by accusing him without giving him a chance to be heard. Investigations are currently ongoing into the matter.
David Kenani Maraga is a Kenyan lawyer and jurist. He was the 14th Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Court of Kenya from October 2016 until his retirement in January 2021.
Johnson Arthur Sakaja is a Kenyan politician serving as the governor of Nairobi City County since 25 August 2022. Previously, he served as the Senator of Nairobi from 2017 to 2022, and as a nominated Member of the National Assembly from 2013 to 2017. He was nominated to Parliament by The National Alliance (TNA) party which was part of the ruling Jubilee Coalition. He was the National Chairman of The National Alliance (TNA) until 9 September 2016 when the party merged with 12 others to form the Jubilee Party.
