Born in Attendorn, Zeppenfeld studied first music and Germanistik at the Lehramt , then concert and opera singing at the music academies in Detmold and Köln, and then with Kammersänger Hans Sotin. About his voice training the singer said: "As a Westphalian one is not necessarily born for operatic singing. Where we speak, i.e. in the back of the throat, is not normally where one sings. It took a long time and a lot of patience from my voice teacher before I understood how to bring the voice forward." [3]
Zeppenfeld was awarded the title Sächsischer Kammersänger (Staatsoper Dresden) in 2015. [4]
There are numerous recordings of Zeppenfeld's work, among them Verdi's Messa da Requiem, published live by Arte from the Dresden Semperoper and on DVD under the direction of Daniele Gatti on the 60th anniversary of the destruction of Dresden. CD recordings were made for Deutsche Grammophon, Deutsche Harmonia Mundi, Oehms Classics and others, radio and television productions with Westdeutscher, Mitteldeutscher, Norddeutscher and Bayerischer Rundfunk, Deutschlandfunk, ORF, 3sat, arte, R.T. Historically, the title was bestowed by princes or kings, when it was styled Hofkammersänger(in), where hof refers to the royal court.
José Francisco Araiza Andrade, is a Mexican operatic tenor and lied singer who has sung as soloist in leading concert halls and in leading tenor operatic roles in the major opera houses of Europe and North America during the course of a lengthy career. Born in Mexico City, he studied singing at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música de México and later in Germany, with Mozartian tenor Richard Holm, and lieder interpretation with Erik Werba. He made his operatic debut in 1970 in Mexico City as First Prisoner in Beethoven's Fidelio. Araiza initially came to international prominence singing in Mozart and Rossini operas, but in the 1980s broadened his repertoire to include Italian and French lyric tenor roles and Wagnerian roles such as Lohengrin and Walther von Stolzing. He was made a Kammersänger of the Vienna State Opera in 1988. Now retired from the opera stage, he teaches singing and serves on the juries of several international singing competitions.

Günther Leib is a German operatic baritone and professor of voice. A Kammersänger of the Dresden State Opera, he sang leading baritone roles both in his native Germany and internationally during the course of his stage career. In 1971 he was awarded the Robert Schumann Prize of the City of Zwickau and in 2017 on the occasion of his 90th birthday the "Gotha-Medaille", honoring him for his international career as "Gotha's most famous voice". He appears in a number of complete opera and oratorio recordings on the Eterna, Supraphon, and Deutsche Grammophon labels.
Kieth Engen was an American operatic bass who was a member of Munich's Bavarian State Opera for decades. Although his career was based in Munich, he appeared internationally as a guest singer at major opera houses and festivals and performed and recorded many of Bach's Passion oratorios and cantatas, primarily with the conductor Karl Richter. He was born Keith Sheldon Engen in Frazee, Minnesota, and died in Murnau am Staffelsee, Germany at the age of 79.
