George A. Barclay (born 1 April 1935 in Elephant & Castle, London, England) [1] is a former motorcycle speedway rider from England. [2]
Barclay started his career with the West Ham Hammers in the British League, during the 1966 British League season. [3] He left West Ham to sign for Rayleigh Rockets for the 1970 season. [4]
Barclay joined the Sunderland Stars in 1971 and remained with them until their closure in 1974. [3]
Barclay has been the driving force of the opening of the National Speedway Museum in Broxbourne in Hertfordshire.
The Plymouth Gladiators are a speedway team in the British SGB Championship. The team competed during various seasons from 1932 to 1969, before reforming after a gap of thirty-six years in 2006. In 2021, the club successfully applied to join the British second division, the SGB Championship. The team nicknames have included Tigers, Panthers, Devils and Bulldogs
