George C. Eads

George C. Eads (born August 20, 1942) is an American economist. He served on the Council of Economic Advisers from 1979 to 1981. He later served as vice president of CRA International. [1]

A native of Clarksville, Texas, Eads earned a degree in economics from University of Colorado Boulder, before continuing his postgraduate studies at Yale University. [2]

Eads Bridge Bridge spanning the Mississippi River in St. Louis, Missouri

Eads Bridge is a combined road and railway bridge over the Mississippi River connecting the cities of St. Louis, Missouri and East St. Louis, Illinois. It is located on the St. Louis riverfront between Laclede's Landing, to the north, and the grounds of the Gateway Arch, to the south. The bridge is named for its designer and builder, James Buchanan Eads. Work on the bridge began in 1867, and it was completed in 1874. Eads Bridge was the first bridge across the Mississippi south of the Missouri River. Earlier bridges were located north of the Missouri, where the Mississippi is smaller. None of the earlier bridges survive, which means that Eads Bridge is also the oldest bridge on the river.

Port Eads, Louisiana Unincorporated community in Louisiana, United States

Port Eads is a populated place at the southern tip of the Mississippi River, also known as South Pass, in Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana, United States. The Mississippi River in the 100-mile-plus stretch between the Port of New Orleans and the Gulf of Mexico frequently suffered from silting up of its outlets, stranding ships, or making parts of the river unnavigable for a period of time. The port was renamed in honor of James Buchanan Eads whose design for the south pass of the Mississippi River solved this problem. It was designated as a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark by the American Society of Civil Engineers in 1982.

George Byron Gordon (1870–1927) was a Canadian-American archaeologist, who graduated from Harvard University in 1894. While studying at Harvard, he participated in excavations at Copan in Honduras under the direction of John G. Owens in 1891. Following Owens’ death in the field, Gordon took command of the Copan expeditions from 1894 to 1895 and in 1900–1901. After his time in Honduras, George Byron Gordon was hired by the University of Pennsylvania where he led two expeditions to Alaska in 1905 and 1907. He spent the remainder of his twenty-four year employment at the University of Pennsylvania collecting antiquities for the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology’s North American collections, and he remains one of the museum’s largest contributors of North American artifacts.

He crossed the Delaware River with George Washington. His first wife was Elizabeth Clark, sister of George Rogers Clark and William Clark. His second wife was Sarah Marshall (1779–1854), a cousin of John Marshall, the fourth Chief Justice of the United States. He is the father of Richard Clough Anderson Jr., Charles Anderson, William Marshall Anderson, and Robert Anderson. He is the great grandfather of Larz Anderson, an American diplomat involved in foreign affairs, who had the Larz Anderson House built for him and his wife Isabel Weld Perkins, which was bequeathed to the Society of Cincinnati as their international headquarters. He is the father-in-law of Allen Latham who helped him with surveying and administered his estate. He was a charter member of the Society of Cincinnati. He was aide-de-camp to Lafayette at the Battle of Yorktown.

Ralph Crosby Jr. was president and CEO of EADS North America - now known as the Airbus Group, Inc - from 2002 to 2009. He is a board member of Airbus and of American Electric Power.
