George Chellah (born December 26, 1974) was the Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations, [1] the official title of the State House spokesperson, or press aide to the President of the Republic of Zambia. Prior to his appointment as State House spokesperson in 2011, Chellah was Assistant News Editor at The Post , Zambia's leading daily tabloid. He also served as a member of the Press Freedom Committee, a non-profit making advocacy for media rights and freedoms founded by The Post Newspapers

Journalism career

After his Diploma in Journalism, Public Relations and Advertising graduation from the Evelyn Hone College of Applied Arts and Commerce, Lusaka, George Chellah joined Zambia's leading daily, The Post , as a reporter in September 2004.

On September 28, 2011, George Chellah left the private sector to join the public service when he was surprisingly called upon by President Michael Chilufya Sata, on his election into office, to serve as his Special Assistant for Press and Public Relations.

Personal life and education

Chellah born and was raised in Zambia, His home town is Mbala in Northern Zambia, completed his Grade 12 in 2000. A graduate with a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a major in Communication Studies, Chellah also attended Sir Evelyn Hone College of Applied Arts and Commerce, Lusaka, for his Diploma in Journalism, Public Relations and Advertising (2001–2003).

He is happily married and lives in Lusaka with his wife and four Children and two other step children.

Michael Sata

Michael Charles Chilufya Sata was a Zambian politician who was the fifth President of Zambia, from 23 September 2011 until his death on 28 October 2014. A social democrat, he led the Patriotic Front (PF), a major political party in Zambia. Under President Frederick Chiluba, Sata was a minister during the 1990s as part of the Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) government; he went into opposition in 2001, forming the PF. As an opposition leader, Sata – popularly known as "King Cobra" – emerged as the leading opposition presidential contender and rival to President Levy Mwanawasa in the 2006 presidential election, but was defeated. Following Mwanawasa's death, Sata ran again and lost to President Rupiah Banda in 2008.

2008 Zambian presidential election

Presidential elections were held in Zambia on 30 October 2008 following the death of the incumbent President Levy Mwanawasa on 19 August 2008, as the elections had to be called within 90 days of his death. It was expected that there would be internal problems within the ruling Movement for Multi-Party Democracy (MMD) as Mwanawasa had not declared a successor prior to his death, but Acting President Rupiah Banda was selected as the MMD's candidate without apparent problems. Michael Sata stood as the candidate of the Patriotic Front (PF), while Hakainde Hichilema stood as the candidate of the United Party for National Development (UPND). Godfrey Miyanda stood as the candidate of the Heritage Party.

Field Ruwe

Field Ruwe is an educator, historian, author, and scholar practitioner currently based in Boston, Massachusetts, U.S. In his native country of Zambia, Dr. Ruwe is known as a radio and television host, and entrepreneur. On March 30, 2016, Ruwe signed a book contract with the Oklahoma-based Tate Publishing and Enterprises, LCC for his novel "Crown Jewels." The deal includes Ruwe's future fiction and nonfiction works.

Lusaka Capital of Zambia

2011 Zambian general election

General elections were held in Zambia on 20 September 2011, electing a President and members of the National Assembly. Michael Sata of the Patriotic Front (PF) won the presidential elections, defeating incumbent Rupiah Banda of the Movement for Multi-Party Democracy (MMD), and was sworn into office on 23 September. The PF emerged as the largest party in the National Assembly, winning 60 of the 148 seats decided on election day.

Chibombo bus crash

On 7 February 2013, a bus collided with a semi-truck and a sport utility vehicle on the Great North Road, between the towns of Chibombo and Kabwe in the Central Province of Zambia, resulting in the deaths of 49 of the 73 persons on the bus, and of the truck driver and his assistant. A further 28 people were injured.

Dickson Jere

He previously served as senior advisor and spokesman of Zambia's Fourth President Rupiah Bwezani Banda. Agnes Buya Yombwe is a Zambian painter, sculptor and textile artist. Her work focuses on highlighting taboo issues such as gender-based violence and myths around menstruation in the African context.

Mulenga Jestina Mulenga is a Zambian painter, writer, sculptor and photographer.

The Evelyn Hone College of Applied Arts and Commerce is a technical college in Lusaka. Established in 1963, it has the largest student population in Zambia.
