George Short was an American politician who served as the 3rd Attorney General of Oklahoma from January 1923 to January 1927.
Short served as the Attorney General of Oklahoma between 1923 and 1927,succeeding Sargent Prentiss Freeling and preceding Ed Dabney. [1] After former Tulsa Police Chief John Gustafson advised Short to arrest and prosecute Bryan and Ernest Burkhart he declined and he repeatedly delayed calling grand juries to investigated the Burkharts and William King Hale. [2]
The Osage Indian murders were in Osage County,Oklahoma,during the 1910s–1930s. Newspapers described the increasing number of unsolved murders and deaths among young adults of the Osage Nation as the "Reign of Terror". Most took place from 1921 to 1926. At least 60 wealthy,full-blood Osage persons were reported killed from 1918 to 1931. Newer investigations indicate that other suspicious deaths during this time could have been misreported or covered-up murders,including those of individuals who were heirs to future fortunes. Further research has shown that the death toll may have been in the hundreds.
William Andrew Edmondson is an American lawyer and politician from the state of Oklahoma. A member of the Democratic Party,Edmondson served as the 16th Attorney General of Oklahoma from 1995 to 2011. Albert Andrew "Ex" Exendine was an American football player,coach,and lawyer. He played college football at the Carlisle Indian Industrial School where he was an All-American end. Exendine served as the head football coach at Otterbein College (1909–1911),Georgetown University (1914–1922),the State College of Washington—now known as Washington State University (1923–1925),Occidental College (1926–1927),Northeastern State Teachers' College—now known as Northeastern State University (1928),and Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical College—now known as Oklahoma State University (1934–1935). He was also the head baseball coach at Oklahoma A&M from 1932 to 1933,tallying a mark of 19–13. Exendine was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a player in 1970.

Ernest George Burkhart was an American murderer who participated in the Osage Indian murders as a hitman for his uncle William King Hale's crime ring. He was convicted for the killing of William E. Smith in 1926,and sentenced to life imprisonment. Burkhart was paroled in 1937,but was sent back to prison for burglarizing his former sister-in-law's house in 1940. After being paroled for the final time in 1959,Burkhart was pardoned by Oklahoma governor Henry Bellmon in 1966 for his role in the Osage murders.
