George Washington Carver High School was a public high school within the Ennis Independent School District in Ennis, Texas, United States. It served as the high school for black students for over 40 years until the public schools were integrated in 1967. The school has since been razed. [1]
A month after graduation in 1967, it was announced that the school would be closing and students would be reassigned to Ennis High School. [2] The school board decided to raze the building was made in February 2007, [3] and it was torn down in June, 2007. [4] A new early learning center, also named after George Washington Carver was erected on the site. [5]
George Washington Carver was an American agricultural scientist and inventor who promoted alternative crops to cotton and methods to prevent soil depletion. He was one of the most prominent black scientists of the early 20th century.
David Maurice Robinson is an American former professional basketball player who played for the San Antonio Spurs in the National Basketball Association (NBA) from 1989 to 2003, and minority owner of the Spurs. He was honored as one of the league's all-time players by being named to the NBA 50th Anniversary (1996) and 75th Anniversary Teams (2021). He is widely considered one of the greatest centers in both college basketball and NBA history.
