George Schwiening (born 15 December 1994) is an English international athlete. [1] She has represented England at the Commonwealth Games. [1] [2]

Biography

Schwiening was educated at the University of Bath and is a former World Junior Duathlon Champion. [3] She switched to marathon running following problems over European duathlon Covid-related travel restrictions and disruption. [4]

In 2022, she was selected for the women's marathon event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, where she finished in 11th place in a time of 2:40:09. [1] [3] In December 2022 she took part in the Valencia marathon and finished in a time of 2:26:28. [5]

McColgan is a four-time European Championships medallist, winning silver medals for the 5000 m in 2018 and 10,000 m in 2022, bronze in the 5000 m in 2022, and a bronze for the indoor 3000 metres in 2017. She is the European record holder for the 10 km road race, and the British record holder for the 5000 m, 10,000 m, 5 km and half marathon. She also holds the European best in the 10 miles on the roads.
