Gerald Kean (born 1957 [1] [2] ) is an Irish solicitor from County Cork. He is regularly the subject of social columns, particularly in the Sunday newspapers which have reported his lavish spending sprees and sun holidays involving his wife and other people, with The Irish Times once describing him as having a "celestial odour". Mr. Kean has also appeared in numerous television shows including Prime Time, Tubridy Tonight , The Afternoon Show , The Podge and Rodge Show , The Restaurant and The Panel and on radio shows such as The Marian Finucane Show .

Kean competed in the first season of Celebrity Bainisteoir , finishing second to Marty Whelan. He later wrote a book about his experience. The book features several photos of Kean, with the English association footballer Alan Shearer being employed to write the foreword. The book discusses his business relationship with Shearer, including his handling of Shearer's contract negotiations before agreeing to take up the position of Newcastle United manager as well as their co-ownership of 'The Happy Magpie' gastropub in Newcastle City Centre. Kean is in an on-off relationship with socialite Lisa Murphy. Although, they have announced a formal parting of the ways, with Murphy reportedly being "spoilt" by her parents at their home. [4]

Early life

Kean grew up in Cork following his birth there in 1957. [1] His father was a member of Ireland's police force (Garda Síochána), his now-dead uncle Liam Hamilton was a former chief justice and two other uncles were also members of the legal profession. [1] At twelve years of age Kean moved to County Wicklow. [1] His parents began a bed and breakfast to pay his college fees to attend University College Dublin (UCD). [1] At UCD Kean encountered his wife, Clodagh. [1] He began his first job with the late solicitor Michael Martin on Dublin's Capel Street, earning a starting salary of IR£7,000 per annum, but had left to set up his own practice by the late 1980s. [1] Through his cousin, the late English musician Wally Nightingale, and through acquaintances made in the course of speaking at lunches in England and the United States, he met a number of musicians and informed them of Ireland's tax exemptions for artists. [1] Kean credits this with boosting his fledgling career. [1]

Career

Kean set up his solicitor's practice, Kean and Co., over fifteen years ago. He was recently disciplined by the solicitors disciplinary tribunal for professional misconduct. In comparison to accounts of Kean's social life, this story, though, received minimal coverage in the Sunday Independent, RTÉ, et al. He has one criminal conviction for drunken driving. He has represented a number of people in the entertainment industry, legally acting of behalf of musicians Jim Kerr, Simon Le Bon, Ronan Keating, George Michael, Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash. His company specialises in sporting law and represents over forty Premier League footballers. Kean appeared on the twenty-fourth episode of the third season of The Podge and Rodge Show, alongside the ballerina Monica Loughman on 11 February 2007. He appeared on the first episode of the previous to now series of The Restaurant, earning four stars. [5] He & his partner, Lisa Murphy, also appeared on Podge n Rodge together. Note: Ms. Murphy also appeared as a guest of Podge and Rodge, who, again, are separate characters in their own right.

Kean claims to have received an Honorary Doctorate Degree from the American University in Florida, and styles himself "Dr. Gerald Kean BCL". The 'American University in Florida' (no web-page available), is not accredited to the American Association of Universities [6]

In Celebrity Bainisteoir, Kean managed Mayfield GAA. In the first quarter-final in episode two he defeated model Glenda Gilson's Crumlin GAA in front of a home crowd of 4,000, having notably used his legal connections to convince Shay Given and Gordon Strachan to assist in his preparations. [7] In the first semi-final in episode six, he defeated Aoibhinn Ní Shúilleabháin's Kiltimagh GAA, after All Star Cork player Niall Cahalane took a training session with the team and another training session took place at Páirc Uí Rinn with Cork players James Masters and Donncha O'Connor and a special yoga class was given to the team. [8] In the final in the eighth and final episode, Kean was defeated by Marty Whelan's Maryland GAA. [9] The two were later reunited when Kean appeared on The Panel on 20 November 2008 as a guest on the episode Whelan hosted. [10]

Martin 'Marty' Whelan is an Irish radio and television personality currently working for Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ). His early television credits included the game shows Millionaire and Fame and Fortune, and the weekday afternoon show, Open House.

Donna and Joseph McCaul, also known as The McCauls, are a brother and sister musical duo who represented Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 in Ukraine. They were not pre-qualified for the final, due to Ireland's result from the 2004 contest, which meant they took part in the semi-final on 19 May 2005.

<i>The Podge and Rodge Show</i>

The Podge and Rodge Show is a talk show, broadcast and produced by RTÉ. For the first three seasons Podge and Rodge were joined by Lucy Kennedy as a co-host but for the first half of the fourth season they were joined by guest hosts including Michelle Heaton, after Kennedy took insult to being called "every name under the sun from bisto to an ugly Gráinne Seoige". Following a mid-season hiatus, Caroline Morahan took on the role of permanent co-host in February 2009. The programme airs every Monday and Tuesday at 22:50 on RTÉ Two from February to April and from October to December with a hiatus during the summer months. The series came to an end on 27 April 2010, with Kennedy appearing as a guest on the final episode of the fifth series.

A Scare at Bedtime is an Irish television show, produced by Double Z Enterprises and broadcast by RTÉ, featuring the two puppets Podge and Rodge as the hosts of a spooky tales and urban myths comedy show. It ran from 1997 until January 2006.

Derek Davis was an Irish broadcaster. On television, he co-hosted Live at 3, presented Davis at Large and Out of the Blue and won Celebrity Bainisteoir.

<i>Who Do You Think You Are?</i> (Irish TV series)

Who Do You Think You Are? is an Irish genealogy documentary series that first aired on RTÉ One in 2008. It is made by the production company Mint. In each episode, a celebrity goes on a journey to trace his or her lineage through a family tree. The series is based on the original version of the franchise, broadcast by the BBC in the United Kingdom. A third series started on 9 September 2018 with six new episodes.

Pamela Ann Mary Flood is a former Irish television presenter and former model from Tallaght, South Dublin. She received the Miss Ireland crown in 1993.

Monica Loughman is an Irish ballet dancer and teacher, writer, and television personality. She was the first Westerner to achieve solo status with the Perm State Theatre of Opera and Ballet of Russia, where she danced for 16 years. On her return to Ireland she established a network of ballet schools. She has also featured on a television series, Ballet Chancers, and appeared in other TV shows such as The Panel, The Podge and Rodge Show, Tubridy Tonight and The Late Late Show, and she is co-author of a book about her experiences.

Katherine Lynch is an Irish television personality from County Leitrim. She has had several television series broadcast on RTÉ Two, with titles like Working Girls, Wonderwomen and Single Ladies. Lynch also participated as a bainisteoir in the second series of the RTÉ One's Celebrity Bainisteoir. She is said to have established a following among the Irish gay community.

Andrea Roche is an Irish entrepreneur. Andrea launched Irelands first blogger/ influencer management agency and represents most of Irelands well known Influencers.She had a successful career as one of Irish best known and most photographed models for a number of years before opening the Andrea Roche Modelling Agency. Andrea is a socialite, and is a regular television personality. She took part in the RTÉ One reality sports television series Celebrity Bainisteoir in 2009 and featured on a weekly basis on the TV3 show Ireland AM. Andrea retired full-time from modelling in 2008, she has been credited with discovering models such as Roz Purcell, Clara McSweeney, Pippa O’Connor Ormond and Miss World 2003 Rosanna Davison.

The first season of Celebrity Bainisteoir was broadcast in Ireland on RTÉ One from 23 March 2008. It was won by the radio and television presenter Marty Whelan who replaced Fianna Fáil TD Mary O'Rourke as bainisteoir of Maryland, County Westmeath, during the series. Whelan's team beat solicitor Gerald Kean's Cork team, Mayfield, in the final at Parnell Park on 16 May that year.

The second season of Celebrity Bainisteoir was broadcast in Ireland on RTÉ One from 22 March 2009 until 10 May 2009.

Mayfied GAA Club(CLG Baile na mBocht) is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the Mayfield area of Cork City, Ireland. Teams are fielded in Gaelic football, hurling, and Ladies' Football. The club participates in Cork GAA competitions and in Seandún board competitions. The club competes at Intermediate level in football and in hurling. In 2016/17, Mayfield were crowned Cork City (Seandún), Cork County, Munster and All-Ireland Junior Hurling Champions.
