Germany Kent is an American print and broadcast journalist and television personality.
Born in Greenville, Mississippi, Kent (born Evelyn Palmer) is the daughter of Lula Palmer, a businesswoman and politician, and Charles Palmer, a retired school administrator and disc jockey. [1] She graduated from North Panola High School in Sardis, Mississippi. In 2017, Kent became the first woman to be inducted into the North Panola Hall of Fame. [2]
After graduating from North Panola High School, Kent entered Northwest Mississippi Community College in Senatobia where she majored in Journalism and Public Relations. While at Northwest, Kent became the first African-American to be elected president of the Student Senate. [3] She transferred to Mississippi State University in Starkville where she earned a bachelor's degree. While at Mississippi State, Kent was the first African-American woman to be elected to the Student Association, [4] serving as the Attorney General. [5]
Kent has written on issues central to social media branding and offering ways to use social media for marketing, social media ethics, business etiquette and social media etiquette. Kent's work has been published in Forbes, Yahoo News, HuffPost, Parade Magazine, Cosmopolitan, AOL, MSN, Monster.com, St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Southern Living, Parade, and various others. Kent was a freelance reporter in Los Angeles and has covered news, politics, sports, entertainment, award ceremonies and red carpet events. She has worked as a radio personality in Los Angeles and anchor for public affairs television. She has covered entertainment for a community magazine as a reporter in Atlanta. In September 2013, Kent founded her own multi-platform media startup. She became one of the executive producers, for which she is a consultant, and guest on-air talent. She has been involved in television and radio as a media pundit. It was announced in October 2015 that Kent was joining the news team at the 50 Plus Report as a producer, reporter, and host. Kent anchored the nightly news for the FOX affiliate KARD 14 MyArkLaMiss in West Monroe, Louisiana, and has served as a freelance reporter and host for various other media outlets. In 2013, Kent was a guest correspondent for Real TV Films when she worked the Celebrity World Challenge Golf Championship in Calabasas, California. [14]
While based in Los Angeles, Kent won the Sigma Delta Chi Award for Online Deadline Reporting (Independent) for the story "Tragedy in Thousand Oaks," coverage in the wake of the Thousand Oaks shooting on the night of November 7, 2018. [15] [16]
In June 2019, she was honored for distinguished service to the American people and the profession of journalism through outstanding accomplishments in the field for excellence in journalism by the Society of Professional Journalists at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. [17] [18] [19] [20]
Kent has made numerous acting appearances as a cameo or playing an on-screen character. She has had a number of nationally broadcast television commercials, with spots for NIKE, Verizon, Carrier, and Coors Light, in addition to a variety of other advertisements for others. Kent has also starred in numerous advertisements for Disney, including those for Disney Destinations, Disney Aulani Resort, and the Disneyland Resort in California. She has also provided voice-over work for the Disney brand. In 2012, Kent appeared as a winning contestant on Let's Make a Deal Christmas Edition. That same year she appeared in a guest starring role as a person struggling with drug addiction on the USA Network television series Graceland. In 2013, Kent starred in a Reality-TV series for the Food Network, alongside celebrity chef Robert Irvine. Kent has appeared on The Doctors, Criminal Minds , and The Real Housewives of Atlanta . In 2012, Kent made an appearance alongside singer-songwriter Mary J. Blige in her video "Why."[ citation needed ] In 2011, Kent made an appearance alongside musical group Take 6 for their video "One," which also featured pop icon Stevie Wonder. [5] [25] [26]
Kent represented Tennessee in the 1991 Hal Jackson Talented Teens International pageant held in New York City. She won the "Miss Personality Award" from over 120 contestants representing countries from all around the world. In an infamous pageant moment, Kent was kissed onstage by Shawn Stockman, of Boyz II Men, during her crowning. In 1992, her stage performance garnered her a place among the Top 10 at the Miss Teen Mississippi Pageant. She also won her state's Speech Award at the pageant that same year. [5]
In 1993, Kent placed in the Top 5 at the Miss Teen Mississippi Pageant, and won the Speech Award for the second consecutive year while also walking away with the "Miss Congeniality Award." While at Mississippi State, Kent won the Miss Alpha Phi Alpha Pageant and was featured in their 12-month calendar as Miss July 1997. [27]
In March 2015, Kent penned a book on hope and motivation, The Hope Handbook. The book was originally created as a book of tweets from inspirations that Kent had posted on social media site X. Kent claimed to have received hundreds of messages from followers recognizing her motivational X (formally known as Twitter) messages and explaining how her messages of hope had inspired them. As a response to their messages, a collection of some of the tweets were assembled, and the book came to fruition. [28]
Following the success of The Hope Handbook, Kent released a collection of Hope books, titled The Hope Handbook Series. [29]
In May 2015 Kent released You Are What You Tweet. [28] [30]
In March 2017, You Are What You Tweet received national recognition as one of four books selected by actor Romany Malco to help President Donald Trump with social media etiquette. As part of Malco's campaign, the book was sent to the White House. [31] [32] [33]
In June 2017, Kent teamed up with author and publisher Rhonda Branch Yearby to produce the book Women Of Faith: Their Untold Stories Revealed: Teen Edition: Bully & Cyber Bullying Prevention. [34] [35] [36] [37]
Miss USA is an American beauty pageant that has been held annually since 1952 to select the entrant from United States in the Miss Universe pageant. The Miss Universe Organization operated both pageants, as well as Miss Teen USA, until 2020, when the organization announced it was licensing operation of the Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageants to Crystle Stewart, Miss USA for 2008 prior to her suspension in October 2022, thus returning the said pageants to the Miss Universe Organization. The pageants are now operated by Laylah Rose.
The Miss West Virginia competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the U.S. state of West Virginia in the Miss America Pageant.
The Miss Florida competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the state of Florida in the Miss America pageant. Florida has twice won the Miss America crown.
Miss Mississippi is a scholarship pageant and a preliminary of Miss America. The contest began in 1934, has been held in Vicksburg since 1958, and provides more money than any other scholarship pageant in the Miss America Organization.
The Miss Louisiana competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the state of Louisiana in the Miss America pageant. Although no delegate from Louisiana has ever won the Miss America title, four have placed 1st runner-up. As of 2022, Louisiana is the lone member of the Confederacy during the Civil War which has not produced a Miss America.

Alyssa Marie Campanella is an American beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss USA 2011. Having previously been crowned Miss California USA 2011. Campanella was also crowned Miss New Jersey Teen USA 2007 and was first runner-up at Miss Teen USA 2007. Campanella was the sixth woman representing California to win the Miss USA title. As Miss USA, Campanella represented the United States at Miss Universe 2011, where she reached the Top 16.
Audra Diane Mari is an American model, television host and beauty pageant titleholder. She was crowned Miss World America 2016 on July 8, 2016, and represented the United States at Miss World 2016. She also represented the state of North Dakota at the Miss Teen USA and Miss USA pageants where she placed 1st runner-up in each pageant.
Destiny Vélez is a beauty pageant titleholder from San Juan, Puerto Rico, who was crowned Miss Puerto Rico 2015. She competed for the Miss America 2016 title in September 2015 and placed outside the Top 15. On December 20, 2015, she was suspended indefinitely from her Miss Puerto Rico position after a series of Islamophobic comments via Twitter.
Katelynne Goldie Sue Staehnke, née Cox is an American singer, model, former cheerleader, and former news anchor from Camas, Washington. She has released two EPs, Unbelievable (2008) and Erase It (2014), and a studio album, One Girl (2011). Starting in 2016, Staehnke competed in four consecutive Miss District of Columbia contests. After winning the 2019 contest, she competed in Miss America 2020. She also represented the state of Missouri in the Miss Earth United States 2016 contest.

Miss South Carolina’s Teen pageant is held the same week as Miss South Carolina, usually occurring during the last weekend in June at the Township Auditorium in Columbia, South Carolina.

Miss USA 2020 was the 69th Miss USA pageant. It was held at the Exhibition Centre and the Soundstage at Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee, on November 9, 2020. Akbar Gbaja-Biamila and Allie LaForce served as hosts, while Cheslie Kryst and Christian Murphy served as backstage commentators, and Haley Reinhart performed. Cheslie Kryst of North Carolina crowned Asya Branch of Mississippi as her successor at the end of the event. Branch is the second consecutive African American to win the title, and the fourth one in five years. This is Mississippi's first win at the Miss USA pageant. Branch represented the United States at the Miss Universe 2020 pageant and placed in the Top 21.
