Ghazala Wadood is a former badminton player from Pakistan. She represented her country from 1980 to 1992, and was a five-time national singles champion. She is the sister of Tariq Wadood, who was also a national badminton champion, and represented Pakistan in international competitions as well.

Career

When Wadood started her career, women played very few sports such as squash, table tennis, tennis and athletics. [1] She received support in her pursuits from her parents, both of whom were former sportspersons. [2] Her brother is the former badminton world number 2, Tariq Wadood.

National

Wadood is a five-time national singles champion. She claimed her first title in 1983, and followed it up with victories in 1984, 1985, 1989, and 1990. [3] [4] For three consecutive years, both brother and sister were Pakistan national champions (1983-1985). [3]

International

Wadood represented Pakistan internationally between 1980 and 1992. [1]

In 1990, she competed at the Asian Games in Beijing, China. Participating in singles, doubles and mixed doubles events. She lost in the round of 16 in all three events. [5] In singles, she lost to Thailand's Somharuthai Jaroensiri by 2 sets to nil (1-11 and 2-11). [5] In women's doubles, she partnered with Afshan Shakeel. They lost to the Chinese pair of Guan Weizhen and Nong Qunhua by 2 sets to nil (5-15 and 4-15). [5] [6]

In 1991, Wadood was scheduled to play at the World Championships, but ended up not competing. [7]

Leanne Choo is a badminton player from Australia. She is the reigning Oceania Champion in women's and mixed doubles. She represented Australia at the 2012 Summer Olympics, alongside former women's doubles partner, Renuga Veeran. Choo also competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Bao Yixin is a Chinese badminton doubles player. She won titles in the women's doubles category with many different partners. She won two World Junior titles at the 2010 BWF World Junior Championships held in Guadalajara, Mexico. In the girls' doubles event, she was crowned World Junior Champion with Ou Dongni and in the mixed doubles she was crowned with Liu Cheng. She also won the mixed doubles at the 2009 Asian Junior Championships with Lu Kai and the mixed doubles at the 2010 Asian Junior Championships with Liu Cheng. Partnering with Tang Yuanting, Bao became the women's doubles champion at the 2015 All England Open. Bao graduated with a bachelor's degree from Xiangtan University.

Rizwan Azam is a Pakistani badminton player who also play in the Australian circuit, and was the National champion in both Pakistan and Australia. Azam was the men's doubles bronze medalists at the South Asian Games in 2006, 2010 and 2016, also in the team event in 2006 and 2016. At the BWF circuit, he was the men's singles champion in Pakistan International, also won the men's doubles titles in Syria, Maldives, and Pakistan.

Mahoor Shahzad is a Pakistani badminton player. She has competed at the 2014 Asian Games, and also at the 2018 and 2022 Commonwealth Games.
