Ghora Katora (Aimee Maganda), which means "Horse Bowl", is a natural lake near the city of Rajgir in the Indian state of Bihar. The shape of the lake resembles that of a horse and is surrounded by mountains on three of the sides. [1] The lake attracts migratory birds from Siberia and central Asia during winter. [2] [3] [4]

History

Then chief minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar, visited for the first time in 2009 as an attempt to popularize the area for eco-tourism. On 29 January 2011, the lake was opened to the general public. A 70 feet high Buddha statue was inaugurated in November 2018. [5] [6]

Attractions

The lake has facilities for paddle boating, a cafeteria, and guest rooms. A statue of Buddha sits in the middle of the lake. The 70 feet tall statue is constructed of 45,000 cubic foot of pink sandstone. [7] The location is one of the cleanest sight-seeing locations in Rajgir.

Geography

It is located 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) from Rajgir. A 6.5 kilometres (4.0 mi) long forested road connects Rajgir to Ghora Katora. Motor vehicles are prohibited near the lake. [7]

Syed Khurshid Mohammad Mohsin was an Indian politician who had served as a Member of the Bihar Legislative Council from May 7, 2018 till his death on January 12, 2019. He was elected by the Members of the Bihar Legislative Assembly with 11 other candidates including Ramchandra Purve.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Sabhyata Dwar</span> Triumphal arch in Patna, Bihar

The Sabhyata Dwar or Civilization Gate is a sandstone arch monument located on the banks on River Ganga in the city of Patna in the Indian state of Bihar. The Sabhyata Dwar is built with a Mauryan-style architecture with a purpose to show the ancient glory of Pataliputra and traditions and culture of the state of Bihar. The monument was first envisioned by the former Lieutenant General Srinivas Kumar Sinha. The 32 metres (105 ft) high structure is taller than Gateway of India by 6 metres (20 ft) and was built at a cost of ₹ 5 crore. The monument is spread over an area of one acre within the campus of Samrat Ashok International Convention Centre. The arches of the Dwar contain inscriptions attributed to Megasthenes, Ashoka, Buddha and Mahavira. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated the monument on 21 May 2018.

Ganga Water Lift Project is a multi-phase drinking water project in Bihar, India. It is the ambitious project of Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar to supply safe drinking water to the water-alarmed towns like Gaya, Rajgir and Nawada, located in southern part of the state through pipeline by lifting water from Ganga river near Hathidah Ghat in Mokama in Patna district. The cost of first phase of this project was initially approved with 2,836 crore (US$360 million), the cost was later revised to 4,174 crore (US$520 million). Government of Bihar approved the first phase of the coveted Ganga Water Lift Scheme (GWLS) of Water Resource Department (WRD) in December 2019. Ganga Water Lift Project is part of Nitish Kumar's ‘Jal-Jivan-Hariyali Abhiyan' which is aimed to minimize the bad effects of climate change.
