Ghost Light is a five-piece American jam band formed in 2017 by Tom Hamilton (Brothers Past, American Babies, Joe Russo's Almost Dead), Raina Mullen, Holly Bowling, Scotty Zwang (Dopapod, RAQ), and Steve Lyons (Nicos Gun). [1] Ghost Light's debut album, Best Kept Secrets, was named one of Glide's top 20 albums of 2019. [2] Ghost Light has performed on major festival stages and in historic venues including Lockn' Festival, [3] Jam Cruise, [4] Electric Forest Festival, [5] Mission Ballroom, [6] Brooklyn Bowl, [7] The Peach Music Festival [8] and Terrapin Crossroads. [9] Ghost Light toured as an opening act for Greensky Bluegrass in the winter of 2020. [10]
Ghost Light was formed at the end of 2017 with two established mainstays in the jam band music scene, Tom Hamilton & Holly Bowling. [11] [12] [13] The original assembly of the band occurred in a studio in Philadelphia, PA. This allowed the band to bond and grow through the music writing process. [14] Unlike most Jam Bands, Ghost Light decided to start by recording an album before ever playing a live show. [15] The band launched their first tour with a sold-out show in San Diego, CA [16] and performed in over 25 venues across the United States throughout 2018.
In March 2019, original bassist Steve Lyons was replaced by Dan Africano from the band John Brown's Body. [17]
On March 22, 2019, Ghost Light released their debut album 'Best Kept Secrets'. At their show that night in Minneapolis, MN they performed the album in its entirety. [18] Ghost Light played 59 shows in 2019 and had 20 scheduled performances for 2020. [19]
In March 2022, the band announced that bassist Dan Africano departed the group and was replaced by Turkuaz founding member Taylor Shell. [20]
In August 2022, the band announced their sophomore album 'The Healing' which was released in October. [21]
Holly Bowling announced in December 2022 that she would be leaving the band at the end of the year, performing her final show on December 29 in Denver. [22]
The band performed their last show at the Peach Music Festival on July 7, 2023 with Tom McKee (American Babies) on keyboards. [23]
Andy J. Gordon described Ghost Light's improvisational live show at the Teragram Ballroom as having "reached glorious synchronicity that has made their recent live shows a revelation." [24]
Doug Collette described Best Kept Secrets as "a purposeful, cogent statement on the part of these seasoned musicians." [25]
Mint described the album as "a trippy set of songs that are light and delicate but also intricate and engrossing," recommending especially the "Keep Your Hands To Yourself" track. [26]
Ben Beamish wrote, "While some music conveys an artist's message, this one seems to want to incite a response from its audience" in his review of Best Kept Secrets. [27]

Phish is an American rock band formed in Burlington, Vermont, in 1983. The band consists of guitarist Trey Anastasio, bassist Mike Gordon, drummer Jon Fishman, and keyboardist Page McConnell, all of whom perform vocals, with Anastasio being the lead vocalist. The band are known for their musical improvisation and jams during their concert performances, and for their devoted fan following.
Ernest Joseph "Trey" Anastasio III is an American guitarist and singer-songwriter best known as the lead guitarist of the rock band Phish, which he co-founded in 1983. He is credited by name as composer of 152 Phish original songs, 141 of them as a solo credit, in addition to 41 credits attributed to the band as a whole.

Railroad Earth is a bluegrass-influenced Americana band formed in Stillwater, New Jersey in 2001. The band's music combines elements of progressive bluegrass, folk, rock, country, jazz, Celtic and other Americana influences. Recognized as "carrying on the tradition of improvisational, genre-spanning music laid forth by the Grateful Dead," Railroad Earth is known for lyrical songwriting and extensive live improvisation. The band takes its name from the Jack Kerouac prose poem "October in the Railroad Earth". The band also has a song of the same name.
Marco Benevento is an American pianist, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and record producer, who has been a fixture of the New York experimental music rock and jazz scene since 1999. He is the founder and recording engineer of Fred Short, a recording studio in Upstate New York, and a member of the rock groups Benevento/Russo Duo and Joe Russo's Almost Dead, both of which feature his regular musical collaborator Joe Russo.
God Street Wine is a jam band from New York City. Their music is an amalgam of rock, jazz, bluegrass, funk, psychedelia, pop, Americana, reggae, progressive, and more. The band broke up in 1999 and reunited in 2009. GSW played a significant role in the development of the improvisational jam band scene of the early 1990s. Their earliest days include playing Nightingale's and The Wetlands Preserve in New York City where their contemporaries were The Spin Doctors, Blues Traveler, Jono Manson and the Dreyer Brothers. From their earliest days, fans of the band were known as Winos. This group of dedicated fans would follow them from gig to gig. When their touring base expanded Winos would sometimes drive hours to see the band. GSW was an early adapter of internet marketing, acquiring a domain name and electronic mailing list ahead of many others in the scene. They also maintained a snail mail list and telephone hotline fans could call to get tour dates from a recorded message. Occasionally callers would be surprised by a band member answering the phone and replying to their inquiry personally.
Greensky Bluegrass is a five-piece American bluegrass jam band founded in Kalamazoo, Michigan in mid-2000. The band has evolved over the years, growing from 3 to 5 members, adding electric effects, and touring with a full light show. Partly because of their name, many articles written about the band address the fact that what Greensky does is "not quite" bluegrass. In their own promotional material, GSBG describes their sound as "their own version of bluegrass music, mixing the acoustic stomp of a string band with the rule-breaking spirit of rock & roll".
Lotus is an instrumental electronic jam band formed in Goshen, Indiana in 1998 now based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Denver, Colorado.
Furthur was an American rock band founded in 2009 by former Grateful Dead members Bob Weir and Phil Lesh. The original lineup also included John Kadlecik of Dark Star Orchestra on lead guitar, RatDog's Jeff Chimenti on keyboards and Jay Lane on percussion, and Joe Russo of the Benevento/Russo Duo on drums. Named after the famous touring bus used by Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters in the 1960s, Furthur was an improvisational jam band that performed music primarily from the extensive Grateful Dead songbook, as well as their own original music and that of several other well-known artists. In addition to the original members, the band's lineup included backup vocalists Sunshine Becker of the a cappella ensemble SoVoSó and Jeff Pehrson of the folk rock bands Box Set and the Fall Risk. After five years, Furthur disbanded in late 2014.

Terrapin Crossroads was a music venue, bar, and restaurant active from 2011 until 2021 in San Rafael, California, founded by former Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh.
The Peach Music Festival is a music festival started by the Allman Brothers Band and Live Nation Entertainment that has been held annually since 2012 at the Pavilion at Montage Mountain and Montage Mountain Ski Resort in Scranton, Pennsylvania. One exception was in 2020.
Joe Russo's Almost Dead is an American rock band formed in 2013 that mainly covers the music of the Grateful Dead. Formed by Furthur and Benevento/Russo Duo drummer Joe Russo, the band played their first show on January 26, 2013 at the Brooklyn Bowl in Brooklyn, New York. In addition to drummer Joe Russo, the band also includes Ween's bassist Dave Dreiwitz, keyboardist Marco Benevento, Scott Metzger on guitar and vocals, and Tom Hamilton of Brothers Past, Ghost Light, and American Babies on guitar and vocals.
Spafford is a U.S.-based jam band that blends multiple genres of music including rock, funk, jazz, reggae, ska, and electro-pop. Its members include Brian Moss (guitar/vocals), Jordan Fairless (bass/vocals), Nick Tkachyk (drums/percussion/vocals), and Cory Schechtman (keys/sax). The group self-releases its recordings, including studio albums, improvisational sessions, and soundboard releases of their live shows.
Scott Guberman is an American keyboardist best known for his work with founding Grateful Dead bassist, Phil Lesh. After relocating to the Bay Area from the East Coast In 2015, Guberman was asked to join Phil Lesh's band "Communion". He now plays regularly as a member of Phil Lesh & Friends and with Lesh in other formations at Terrapin Crossroads.
Holly Bowling is an American pianist, and keyboardist based in San Francisco. She is known for her solo instrumental performances in addition to her work with Ghost Light, Phil Lesh and Friends, and Greensky Bluegrass. She was named by Rolling Stone as one of "Ten New Artists You Need To Know Right Now."
Turkuaz was an American funk band based in Brooklyn, New York.
