Mattoo is a member of the Academic Advisory Board of the German Institute for Global and Area Studies and was recently elected unanimously as its Deputy Chair. He was the founding CEO of the Australia India Institute at the University of Melbourne and served as chairman of the governing board of Miranda House, University of Delhi, the highest-ranked women's college in India, and served as Chair of Kirori Mal College earlier He has also been a member of the Lancet Commission on Adolescent Health and Wellbeing. In 2002, he was the youngest person to be appointed as vice chancellor of a public university in independent India. Mattoo's advice on policy matters has been sought across political parties and across governments, including by Prime Ministers Atal Behari Vajpayee and Dr Manmohan Singh. Following the abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution of India, he has offered a political roadmap for securing the future of Jammu and Kashmir. He has been a persistent advocate of multiculturalism and of reconciliation between Kashmiri Pandits and Kashmiri Muslims.
Hashmat Ullah Khan, also spelled Hashmatullah Khan, is a Kashmiri Kani shawl promoter and entrepreneur. In 2009, he was conferred the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian honour, for reviving the weaving of Kani shawls.

Jitendra Narain Saksena was an Indian Police official, known for his contributions in combating militancy in Kashmir during late Eighties and early Nineties. He was the Director General of Police of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir from December 1989 to January 1992. He was reportedly targeted by the militants and was injured by a bomb blast that took place at his office on 24 January 1992, injuring four other senior police officials as well. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri in 1992. He died on 9 December 2010.

He is a former Chief Secretary of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Phunsog, an Albert Parvin Fellow at the Woodrow Wilson School, was awarded the fourth highest civilian award of the Padma Shri by the Government of India, in 1998.

He is the senior consultant of General Medicine at Sitaram Bhartia Institute of Science and Research and an Emeritus Professor of the National Academy of Medical Sciences. He received the fourth highest Indian civilian honour of the Padma Shri in 2003.

Akhtar Mohiuddin, was a Kashmiri novelist, playwright and short story writer, who made significant contribution to the development of modern Kashmiri literature. Born in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, his novel, Dod Dag is considered as the first novel written and published in Kashmiri. He received Sahitya Akademi Award in 1958 for his short story collection Sath Sangar.
Fayaz Ahmad Jan is an Indian papier-mâché artisan, who was awarded the Padma Shri (2019), the fourth highest civilian award in India for his work in artcraft and papier-mâché. Fayaz has participated in various workshops, held in the United States, Brazil, France, Sweden, Italy, Singapore, Oman, Dubai, Iran and Kyrgyzstan. He hails from Hassanabad of Srinagar district, Kashmir.
Narsingh Dev Jamwal is an Indian writer and playwright from Jammu, who has authored 48 books, including Sanjhi Dharti Bakhle Mahnu (novel), which won the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1978. He received India's fourth highest civilian award, Padma Shri (2019) for his contribution in the field of literature and education.
