Ghulam Yahya Tarzi (born 1898) was a public servant and diplomat in Afghanistan from 1920 to 1964. [1] [2] [3]
Internationally, Ghulam Yahya Khan Tarzi began his career in public service in the field of international affairs, as Deputy Director of the Visa and Passport Section of the Afgan Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He joined the Afghan Foreign Service in 1920. He was the Director General of Political Affairs from 1926 to 1927 in the Afghan Foreign Ministry. Tarzi would return to Kabul in 1930 and in 1934 would take up the position of Director of the Public Health Department. This led to his appointment as Minister of Public Health in 1935, a critical position in the impoverished country of Afghanistan. His work in the ministry would produce many new hospitals around the country, as well as a large rise in vaccinations to all citizens.[ citation needed ]
In 1952 he would take another large step onto the international diplomatic stage as Ambassador to Sweden. Shortly thereafter, Ambassador Tarzi would take up a critical role as the Afghan Ambassador to the Soviet Union from 1952 to 1957. His foreign missions would also take him to France and Hungary before the end of his long diplomatic tenure would finish.[ citation needed ]

The foreign relations of Afghanistan are in a transitional phase since the 2021 fall of Kabul to the Taliban and the collapse of the internationally recognized Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. No country has recognised the new Taliban-run government, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. Although some countries have engaged in informal diplomatic contact with the Islamic Emirate, formal relations remain limited to representatives of the Islamic Republic.

Earl Anthony Wayne is an American diplomat. Formerly Assistant Secretary of State for Economic and Business Affairs, Ambassador to Argentina and Deputy Ambassador to Afghanistan, Wayne served nearly four years as Ambassador to Mexico. He was nominated by President Obama and confirmed by the Senate in August, 2011. He departed Mexico City for Washington July 31, 2015 and retired from the State Department on September 30, 2015. Wayne attained the highest rank in the U.S. diplomatic service: Career Ambassador. He is currently a Professorial Lecturer and Distinguished Diplomat in Residence at American University's School of International Service where he teaches courses related to diplomacy and US foreign policy. Wayne also works with the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, the Atlantic Council, the Center for Strategic and International Studies,. Wayne is co-chair of the Mexico Institute's Advisory Board at the Wilson Center. He is also on the board of the American Academy of Diplomacy and the Public Diplomacy Council of America. Wayne is an independent consultant, speaker and writer and works with several not-for-profit professional associations. He was an adviser for HSBC Latin America on improving management of financial crime risk from 2015 until 2019 and served on the board of the American Foreign Service Association from 2017 to 2019.

He became a key figure in the history of Afghanistan, following the lead of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in Turkey by working for modernization and secularization, and strongly opposing religious extremism and obscurantism. Tarzi emulated the Young Turks coalition.
