Friuli Venezia Giulia is one of the 20 regions of Italy and one of five autonomous regions with special statute. The regional capital is Trieste on the Gulf of Trieste, a bay of the Adriatic Sea.
The University of Trieste is a public research university in Trieste in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region in northeast Italy. The university consists of 10 departments, has a wide and almost complete range of university courses and has about 15,000 students and 1,000 professors. It was founded in 1924.

The Province of Trieste was a province in the autonomous Friuli Venezia Giulia region of Italy. Its capital was the city of Trieste. It had an area of 212 square kilometres (82 sq mi) and it had a total population of 234,668. It had a coastal length of 48.1 kilometres (29.9 mi). Abolished in 2017, it was reestablished in 2019 as the Regional decentralization entity of Trieste, and was reactivated on 1 July 2020.
The Slovene Littoral is one of the five traditional regions of Slovenia. The littoral in its name - for a coastal-adjacent area - recalls the former Austrian Littoral, the Habsburg possessions on the upper Adriatic coast, of which the Slovene Littoral was part.
Monrupino is a comune (municipality) in the Regional decentralization entity of Trieste in the Italian region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, located about 9 kilometres (5.6 mi) north of Trieste, on the border with Slovenia. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 848 and an area of 12.7 square kilometres (4.9 sq mi). According to the 1971 census, 77.3% of the population are Slovenes.
Sgonico is a comune (municipality) in the Regional decentralization entity of Trieste in the Italian region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, located about 12 kilometres (7 mi) northwest of Trieste, on the border with Slovenia. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 2,130 and an area of 31.3 square kilometres (12.1 sq mi). According to the 1971 census, 81.6% of the population are Slovenes.

The Slovene Union is a political party in Italy representing the Slovene minority in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region. Its Slovene name means literally "Slovene Community", but the denomination "Slovene Union" is used in other languages.
The Viote Alpine Botanical Garden is an alpine botanical garden operated by the Museo tridentino di scienze naturali, and located in Viotte di Monte Bondone, southwest of Trento, Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol, Italy. It is open daily in the warmer months; an admission fee is charged.
The Rosandra Valley is a valley centered on the Rosandra River in the municipality of Dolina in the Italian region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, between the city of Trieste and the border with Slovenia. It is also included into a natural park, mostly set around the Rosandra River and the surrounding hills reach an elevation of 412 metres (1,352 ft). The northern end of the valley crosses the Italian-Slovenian border. The Rosandra Valley is part of the Karst geographical region. Tourist attractions in the valley are 40-metre (130 ft) Supet Falls near the village of Botazzo and Our Lady of Siaris Church perched high in the hills of the valley.
The Chanousia Alpine Botanical Garden is an alpine botanical garden located at 2170 meters altitude near Mont Blanc, at the Little St Bernard Pass, and even if it's located in France, it belongs to the Italian commune of La Thuile. It was founded by Valdostan abbot and botanist Pierre Chanoux. It is open daily in the warmer months.
The Orto Botanico Conservativo Carlo Spegazzini, also called the Giardino Conservativo Spegazzini, is a botanical garden operated by the Accademia Trevigiana per il Territorio, and located at viale de Coubertin 15, Treviso, Veneto, Italy. It is open daily.
Gabrovizza (Italian) or Gabrovec (Slovene) is a village in the Comune of Sgonico/Zgonik in the Italian region Friuli-Venezia Giulia, located about 10 kilometres (7 mi) northwest of Trieste, on the border with Slovenia.
Grotta Regina del Carso is a Karst cave in the village of San Michele del Carso in the municipality of Savogna d'Isonzo. The cave is not open to public, and the access is managed by Talpe del Carso/Kraški Krti speleological group, headquartered in the vicinity of the entrance.
Abisso Bonetti is a Karst cave in the municipality of Doberdò del Lago, 1 km (0.62 mi) SE from the small village of Bonetti, near Slovenian border. The cave is one of the most famous cavities in the Gorizia Karst. Anyway, due to its dangerous pit opening, entry is allowed only to expert cavers with the necessary equipment for single-rope descend.
