Gideon Obhakhan is a Nigerian politician and the immediate past commissioner for education in Edo State. [1] He contested for the House of Representatives during the 2015 general election. [1]

Early life and education

Gideon Obhakhan was born in Ekpoma, Edo State, Nigeria. He attended Emaudo Primary School, Ekpoma, before proceeding to Annunciation Catholic College, Irrua for his secondary education thereafter proceeded to the University of Benin where he obtained bachelor's degree in Electronic and electrical Engineering. [1] He bagged his masters in communication engineering from the University of Lagos before proceeding to University of Leicester, United Kingdom for an MBA. [2] [1]

Career and politics

Obhakhan worked with private telecommunications companies such as Mobitel and  EMIS telecommunication before joining MTN Nigeria as managing director, Planning and Strategy. [3]

Obhakhan contested for the House of Representatives election in the 2015 general election under the umbrella of All Progressive Congress (APC). He lost to the opposition party's candidate, Joe Edionwele of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP). [4] He was appointed as the commissioner for education by the then Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole. [5] During the 2020 gubernatorial elections in Edo State, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, appointed him as director of Research, Ize-Iyamu Campaign Organisation. [6]

Obhakhan served as the secretary of the Public Affairs Directorate of the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council during the campaigning for the 2023 Nigerian presidential election. [7]

The 2023 Nigerian presidential election was held on 25 February 2023 to elect the president and Vice President of Nigeria. Bola Tinubu, a former Governor of Lagos State and nominee of the All Progressives Congress, won the disputed election with 36.61% of the vote, 8,794,726 total votes. Runners-up were former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peoples Democratic Party, and former Governor of Anambra State Peter Obi, Labour Party, who both immediately contested the result; Obi claimed he won. Other federal elections, including elections to the House of Representatives and the Senate, held on the same date while state elections were scheduled to hold two weeks afterward on 11 March, but were postponed by a week and was held on 18 March. The inauguration was held on 29 May 2023.

Hon Bernard Barida Mikko is a Nigerian politician and businessman from Gokana LGA in Rivers State. He served as a member of the 4th parliament of the Nigerian National Assembly delegation from Rivers state, representing Khana/Gokana constituency from 1999 to 2003.
