Gigwise was a British online music news site that featured music news, photos, album reviews, music festivals, concert tickets and video content. [1] Founded in June 2001, [2] the site was based in London, England.
Gigwise was launched in 2001 in Liverpool as a gig listings site. Over time, the site evolved into a music news site including reviews and interviews in its content. In 2006, the site relocated its main office to London. It was the UK's 20th most-visited music news website in Dec 2010 ranking above NME.COM in the comScore reports. [3] [4]
Gigwise was acquired in 2016 by the team behind Second Screen [5] and Techtonic. [6]
For the 20th Anniversary, Gigwise published its first ever print edition [7] in July 2021 featuring Self Esteem on the front cover.
Gigwise hosted the Indie Idle band competition for the Camden Crawl festival in 2007, 2008 and 2009. Gigwise also launched Snowbombing festival's King of the Mountain unsigned band competition in 2009. The winning band, I Am Austin, won €2000 and a headline slot at the festival. In April 2011, Gigwise launched a monthly club night at XOYO with Young Knives playing an album launch. Gigwise also had their own arena at the June 2011 Get Loaded In The Park in London. [11] The acts appearing at the Gigwise Stage were Yelle, O Children, Darwin Deez, Babeshadow, and Alpines. In May 2011, Liverpool Sound City also hosted a Gigwise stage at the O2 Academy Liverpool with Scottish rockers The View headlining. In 2018, Gigwise collaborated with Romania's Electric Castle Festival, and in 2019, partnered with Mophie mobile to bring exclusive content from Isle of Wight Festival. In 2020, the site hosted a virtual stage at the first ever digital SXSW Festival.
In 2011, Giant Digital in-house designers and developers began a redesign of Gigwise with the objective to create a visually simplified appearance. [12] The site redefined its usability to accompany a new generation of users. Web Designer Michael Pumo at Branch told Music Week the new design is "bold, unpretentious and straight-forward" and that improvements will increase usability on touch devices like the Apple iPad.
As the site changed hands again in 2016, Gigwise was once again updated for desktop and mobile. Relaunched with its freshest look to date in 2021 - to coincide with the site's twentieth anniversary - the latest redesign reflects a diversification of Gigwise into genres of all kinds, away from the indie focus of old.
Gigwise is one of six sister sites which were also launched as part of the Giant Digital network; Other sites include Entertainmentwise, Popdash, Taletela, Tellygossip, and in 2011 Muveez with Alex Winehouse, brother of Amy Winehouse, serving as Chief Editor. Gigwise hosted the "best song" award at the BT Digital Music Awards at the Camden Roundhouse, where the winner was Jessie J's "Price Tag" featuring B.o.B. [13] In 2012 Gigwise became of the two only media partners for the Strummer Of Love festival held in Somerset in aid of the late Joe Strummer with all the proceeds going to the Strummerville charity which helps young people in music who would not normally get opportunities in music. Gigwise was nominated in the 'Best Music Media Brand' category of the 2013 Music Week awards. [15]

Babyshambles were an English rock band established in London. The band was formed by Pete Doherty during a hiatus from the Libertines. As of 2013 the band included Mick Whitnall, Drew McConnell and Adam Ficek. Babyshambles have released three albums—Down in Albion (2005), Shotter's Nation (2007) and Sequel to the Prequel (2013)—three EPs and a number of singles.

Kaiser Chiefs are an English indie rock band from Leeds who originally formed in 1996 as Runston Parva, before reforming as Parva in 2000, and releasing one studio album, 22, in 2003, before renaming and establishing themselves in their current name that same year. Since their formation, the band has consisted of lead vocalist Ricky Wilson, guitarist Andrew "Whitey" White, bassist Simon Rix, keyboardist Nick "Peanut" Baines and since 2013 drummer Vijay Mistry, who replaced founding drummer Nick Hodgson following his departure from the band in late 2012.
Arctic Monkeys are an English rock band formed in Sheffield on 14 August 2002. The group consists of lead singer Alex Turner, drummer Matt Helders, guitarist Jamie Cook and bassist Nick O'Malley. Former bassist Andy Nicholson left the band in 2006 shortly after their debut album, Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, was released.
NX Newcastle, formerly known as the O2 Academy Newcastle, is a music venue in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. It opened in the former Majestic Ballroom building on 14 October 2005 as the Carling Academy, and was renamed for Telefónica Europe's O2 mobile network brand in 2008. The venue was managed by Academy Music Group until early 2022, when Electric Group took over the operation of the site. Following a complete refurbishment, it reopened as NX Newcastle in September 2022.
Lily Rose Beatrice Allen is an English singer-songwriter and actress. She is the daughter of actor Keith Allen and film producer Alison Owen. Her musical career began in 2005 when she was signed to Regal Recordings and began publishing her vocal recordings on the social networking site Myspace; their popularity resulted in airplay on BBC Radio 1. Her 2006 debut commercial single, "Smile" reached number one on the UK Singles Chart by July of that year and received double platinum certification by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI). Her debut studio album, Alright, Still (2006) explored ska and reggae. Back to Black is the second and final studio album by English singer and songwriter Amy Winehouse, released on 27 October 2006 by Island Records. Winehouse predominantly based the album on her tumultuous relationship with then-ex-boyfriend and future husband Blake Fielder-Civil, who temporarily left her to pursue his previous ex-girlfriend. Their short-lived separation spurred her to create an album that explores themes of guilt, grief, infidelity, heartbreak and trauma in a relationship.
"Rehab" is a song written and recorded by English singer and songwriter Amy Winehouse, from her second and final studio album Back to Black (2006). Produced by Mark Ronson, the lyrics are autobiographical and address Winehouse's refusal to enter a rehabilitation clinic for alcohol. "Rehab" was released as the lead single from Back to Black in 2006, and it peaked at number 7 in the United Kingdom on its Singles Chart and number 9 in the United States on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Winehouse's only top 10 hit in the US.

The xx are an English indie rock band from Wandsworth, London, formed in 2005. The band consists of Romy Madley Croft, Oliver Sim, Jamie Smith, also known as Jamie xx, and formerly Baria Qureshi. They are known for their distinct and minimalist sound that blends indie rock, indie electronic, indie pop, dream pop and electro-rock and the dual vocalist setup of both Madley Croft and Sim. Their music employs soft, echoed guitar, prominent bass, light electronic beats and ambient soundscape backgrounds.

His self-titled debut album, Jake Bugg, some of which was co-written with songwriter Iain Archer, was released in October 2012 and reached number one on the UK Albums Chart. His second album, Shangri La, was released in November 2013 and his third, largely self-produced album On My One, in June 2016. His fourth album Hearts That Strain, a largely acoustic effort, produced by Dan Auerbach, was released in September 2017. The 1975 are an English pop rock band formed in Wilmslow, Cheshire in 2002. The band consists of Matty Healy, Adam Hann, Ross MacDonald (bass), and George Daniel. The name of the band was inspired by a page of scribblings found in Healy's copy of On the Road by Jack Kerouac that was dated "1 June, The 1975".
Royal Blood are an English rock duo formed in Worthing in 2011. The current lineup consists of Mike Kerr and Ben Thatcher (drums). Their signature sound is built around Kerr's bass playing style, which sees him using various effects pedals and amps to make his bass guitar sound like an electric guitar and bass guitar at the same time. The duo were signed by Warner Chappell Music in 2013 and have since released four studio albums: Royal Blood (2014), How Did We Get So Dark? (2017), Typhoons (2021), and Back to the Water Below (2023).
