Virginia Leigh Boggess (born September 13, 1981) is an American women's basketball head coach and former player. She is the current head coach of the University of Toledo women's basketball team. [1] She previously served as the head coach at Monmouth University. [2]

Early life and education

Boggess is from Hamlin, West Virginia. [3] She played college basketball for Wingate University from 1999 through 2003 where she received her bachelor's degree [4]

Coaching career

Her first coaching job was a graduate assistant for the Kennesaw State in 2003. After one season she was hired as a full-time assistant where she remained until 2006. She spent three seasons as an assistant at Hofstra, five at Jacksonville State, and one at Columbia. [5] In 2014 she was hired by Carolyn Kieger as an assistant when Kieger accepted the head coaching position at Marquette. In 2019 she followed Kieger to Penn State where she remained until she landed her first head coaching job. [6]

Monmouth

On May 8, 2021, She was named the ninth head coach at Monmouth. [7] She led the Hawks to a 54–42 record over three seasons. [8] Her 2022–23 team went 18–16 in the regular season and, as the seventh seed, became the first team to win the CAA tournament by winning four games in four days. [9] They lost to Tennessee Tech in a play-in game in the NCAA Tournament. [10] During her final season Monmouth went 22–10. [11]

Toledo

On April 9, 2024, She was named the tenth head coach at Toledo. [12]

Her teams also made four NCAA Tournament appearances, in addition to five WNIT appearances. She served as an assistant coach at Seton Hall University and at UNC Wilmington where she became interim head coach on February 13, 2022 and continued to serve as head coach for the 2022–23 season.

Heather Oesterle is a former collegiate basketball player who is currently an assistant coach for the Stanford Cardinal women's basketball team. Previously, she was the head coach of the Central Michigan and the strategic program director of Notre Dame women's basketball teams. Oesterle was named CMU's head women's basketball coach in July, 2019, succeeding her long-time mentor Sue Guevara. Oesterle served for nine seasons on Guevara's staff at CMU, helping lead the program to unprecedented heights including three Mid-American Conference championships, two MAC Tournament titles, and five MAC West Division crowns. She earned her bachelor's degree in kinesiology from Michigan in 2002 and her master's degree in sports studies from Miami in 2008.

Carly Thibault-DuDonis is the women's basketball coach for Fairfield University since 2022. Her 106 career three points were in the top five for the school during 2024. Thibault began her career with Florida State University as their Director of Recruiting Operations during 2013. Throughout the remainder of the 2010s, she held assistant coaching positions with Eastern Michigan University, Mississippi State University and the University of Minnesota.
